🌱 Strengthening Solidarity Economy Districts in Trentino Discover how the Trentino pilot is helping local communities build stronger, more collaborative Solidarity Economy Districts (DES). This video takes you inside a journey of participatory governance, peer learning, and territorial cooperation. Through interviews, world cafés, dissemination events, and hands-on workshops, the pilot brought together cooperatives, municipalities, and social actors from areas like Fiemme‑Fassa and Vallagarina. 💡A key outcome? The DES Toolkit! It’s a practical, ready‑to-use manual designed to help other regions replicate and adapt DES models. By activating institutional working groups and fostering shared decision‑making, the Trentino pilot shows how collaborative governance can create sustainable, transferable models for the social and solidarity economy. If you’re curious about community‑driven development, territorial networks, or innovative governance, this video offers a concrete look at what’s possible when local actors work together.

Does Europe need another competitiveness wake-up call? In his report on the Future of European Competitiveness, Mario Draghi provided a clear-eyed diagnosis of Europe’s economic problems and proposed bold reforms. He pointed out how European policy all too often dulls European entrepreneurship and innovation – with the result that the region has become a laggard in many key technological developments. Positive policy initiatives have been taken since Draghi’s report – but they are, frankly, far and few in between. And in the past weeks and months, we are back again debating how to protect basic industries. What areas of reform are necessary for Europe to be a place of innovation and growth? Panellists: Judith Arnal is Senior Research Fellow at CEPS, Elcano, and Fedea. She is the author of several key papers on EU growth and capital market reforms. Daniel Gros is Director of the Institute for European Policymaking at Bocconi University and, among other things, co-author of the highly acclaimed EU Innovation Policy – How to Escape the Middle Technology Trap. Fredrik Erixon is Director of ECIPE and the author of several studies on competitiveness and innovation, including the 2022 Competitiveness Compass. ERC grantee Ludovica Galeazzo and her team at Università degli Studi di Padova use 3D mapping, drones, underwater robots, and extensive archival research to reconstruct these lost islands, revealing how they shaped Venice’s trade, culture, and survival. For centuries, these islands were hubs of innovation – home to monasteries, military infrastructures, and grand estates – until they were abandoned or demolished after the fall of the Republic in 1797. Now, the VeNiss project is bringing them back to life through a digital geospatial platform, letting users explore five centuries of history in 3D. This isn’t just about Venice but a blueprint for preserving fragile urban landscapes worldwide, blending cutting-edge tech with deep archival research. Could this change how we see history? 👂️Listen to our latest podcast Italy and Europe as Italian voters cast their ballots in the judicial reform referendum happening today. The Italian economy has no one face. It has two faces. And they're very different from every point of view, including from an assessment point of view. I would say one is good and the other is bad. So let me clarify what I meant. The good part is the fiscal situation. Italy clearly has a flow fiscal situation that is better than France, just to make one example, because soon it will get out of the excessive deficit procedure and it's showing discipline in the fiscal situation, notwithstanding the many demands that are made to the government for one or the other purpose. So that's the good part and then there is the bad part. And just to anticipate my assessment, the bad part overwhelms the good part. And the bad part, you alluded to that already, Rebecca, is the lack of growth. Of course, the lack of growth is something that predates by decades the Meloni government. I mean, Italy basically has not grown in terms of GDP per head over the last 25 years, while every other country, or at least the large countries in the euro area, Greece is the exception, have grown over this time. Germany maybe 20-25%, France 15%, Italy practically zero. And of course, this is not the fault of the Meloni government, as I said. I mean, this has been outstanding for 25 years. But you don't see any sign that the Meloni government is changing this situation. And Italy desperately needs to change this situation because Italy still has lot of demands on its economy that are not satisfied. 🗣️Francesco Papadia in conversation with host Rebecca Christie and Emmanuel Mourlon-Druol

What’s the real lesson from the #DraghiReport — and what should #Europe actually do next? In this segment, we dive into one of the most important debates shaping Europe’s economic future. The Draghi report makes a powerful case for building a true European common market — not just for goods, but also for services, innovation, and capital. A genuine Capital Markets Union is essential if Europe wants to finance #innovation at scale and play a serious role on the global stage. But when it comes to energy, opinions diverge. While Draghi calls for opening up a new discussion on market design, not everyone agrees that this is the right path. The argument here is clear: ➡️ Strengthening the European market? Absolutely. ➡️ But revisiting market design and expanding regulation? Not the right recipe. Instead, this talk makes the case for more market, not less — sending the right signals to investors, allocating risk properly, and ensuring that what must be regulated is regulated… and what shouldn’t be, isn’t. 📌 Watch to understand where Europe should push forward, where it should step back, and how it can unlock the full potential of its energy and innovation ecosystem. #DraghiReport #EuropeanMarket #CapitalMarketsUnion #EUInnovation #EnergyPolicy #MarketDesign #EUCompetitiveness #SingleMarket #EuropeEconomy #CleanEnergy #IndustrialPolicy #EUReform #FutureOfEurope

Battery storage is a game changer. It is key to delivering a flexible, electrified energy system, powered by renewables. In this video series, we're visiting the companies leading the charge on Europe's battery storage journey. IPS's battery manufacturing site in Bulgaria is the first gigafactory in the country, and is recognised as a strategic project under the EU's Net-Zero Industry Act. Currently the site produces 3 GWh annual capacity, with a second site under construction that will increase capacity to 5 GWh. Mariyana Yaneva, Chief Operating Officer at IPS, highlights the importance of building up production capacity and knowledge in Europe, to improve energy security. SolarPower Europe CEO, Walburga Hemetsberger, underscores the need to scale Europe's battery storage market 10 times by 2030, and how part of that includes also building up Europe's manufacturing capacity.

In this episode of The Sound of Economics, host Rebecca Christie talks about the economy and politics of Italy with Bruegel’s Emmanuel Mourlon-Druol and Francesco Papadia. Why does Italy always feel on the brink of a crisis, even as it has been one of the European Union’s strongest and most important countries since the bloc’s founding? With public finances that are outperforming France but growth persistently elusive, the country has a two-sided performance that will require – and may not get – significant structural reforms to stabilise. What will be the consequences for Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni from the upcoming referendum on the legal system? Her far-right origins have morphed into a complex mix of centrist and right-wing positions, an experience that could offer a window into the coming French elections. From 1941’s Ventotene manifesto to today’s war in Ukraine, Rome has been one of Europe’s most complex and important political centres.

Additive manufacturing in defence is no longer an abstract concept. It has become a strategic technology. AM allows troops to 3D print parts and repair tools wherever they are. 3D printers streamline prototyping, build protective t-walls, or produce sophisticated metal components for engines or vehicles. Over the next days, the teams will showcase what and how fast their 3D printers can produce. They will also follow workshop and exchange best practice. The event underpins the growing role of additive manufacturing in strengthening Europe’s defence readiness and strategic autonomy.

Tyre wear and non-exhaust emissions (NEEs) are the dirty secret of the transport industry and a significant contributor to urban air and ocean microplastic pollution. Despite targeted policy measures in cities (Euro 7), there has been a consistent rise in NEEs caused by tyre, brake and road wear, especially in electric vehicles. The Tyre Collective proposed solution is a patented electrostatic filter (TC05) that captures PM from tyre and road wear on the vehicle before it enters the environment. This project focuses on refining and commercialising this retrofit solution for light commercial vehicles. This includes a fourmonth trial and demo with partners Ringway in the United Kingdom and the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg in France. The project will validate filter performance, streamline logistics and data integration, and quantify environmental impacts at scale. Italy is increasingly recognised as a migration state. The perceived threat from migrants among the native majority plays a critical role in shaping social tensions and electoral behaviour. During this MPC seminar, Olga Griaznova presented a study drawing on the Intergroup Competition Hypothesis and the Integrated Intergroup Threat Theory to examine the mechanism shaping attitudes towards migrants. She also exposed how these theories suggest that perceived threat influence individuals’ views of outgroup members. Olga Griaznova is a quantitative sociologist who focuses on the determinants of preferences for redistribution, perceptions of inequality, and migration, with a particular interest in survey experiments, panel data, and cross-national comparative analysis. Restructuring is no longer an exceptional circumstance. Digitalisation, the green transition, unregulated globalisation and successive crises result in massive relocations, redundancies, closures and other decisions with a huge impact on workers. EWCs and SE Works Councils are in the frontline to face these plans and shape the changes through trade union solidarity and cross-border coordination. In cooperation with the European Trade Union Institute, we present a series of short videos on different subjects, designed to inspire you and strengthen your position in the European social dialogue. Under pressure: How places cope with industrial restructuring
28 Jan 2026
OECD SMEs, Regions a...
The pressure of industrial restructuring has been accelerating under the combined forces of digitalisation, advances in artificial intelligence, evolving global value chains and environmental considerations. These shifts create new opportunities for innovation and growth, but they also exert significant pressure on certain sectors, which tend to be highly spatially concentrated. The impacts of industrial shocks are uneven: while some regions adapt and thrive, others struggle to recover, with potentially high social and economic costs for workers and communities. Yet, our understanding of why certain places rebound more effectively than others remains limited. By studying the spatial patterns of past industrial restructurings, we can uncover insights to help regions navigate current and future challenges, ensuring that industrial change becomes an engine of resilience rather than a source of vulnerability. Two new OECD working papers, carried out within the Transforming Places project, introduces the Industrial Restructuring Pressure index, a tool that helps identify where restructuring pressures hit the hardest, and assess how places responded in the aftermath. Covering over 400 urban labour markets across six OECD countries and spanning over five decades, the analysis uncovers distinct adjustment patterns following industrial restructuring pressure. This webinar marked the launch of the two OECD working papers. The session explored the geography of industrial change, discussed drivers of uneven adjustment patterns, and identified what these insights mean for policy strategies that support communities under pressure. This webinar will analyse ways to strengthen the development and deployment of AI-driven solutions in areas such as industrial automation, human–robot collaboration, and digital twins. High-speed, futuristic digital background with light streaks and tech overlays, representing digital transformation. Europe is at a pivotal moment for robotics. Advances in artificial intelligence are transforming what robots can do—how they learn, adapt and interact with the real world. This is opening a new wave of opportunities with the impact being felt across sectors, from industry and services to healthcare, agriculture and manufacturing. Manufacturing is one of the sectors where robotics can deliver major impact—but it is also a sector where AI, beyond robotics, can significantly improve automation, optimisation and customisation of production processes. #DigitalEU #AIinEurope Facing an ageing workforce, rising global competition, and growing environmental and security challenges, European manufacturing competitiveness is under increasing pressure. Recent analyses, including Draghi (2024), have highlighted the importance of targeted industrial initiatives to help close Europe’s productivity gap. The rapidly evolving field of robotics offers a unique opportunity to propel the industry forward, with millions of jobs depending on its successful transformation. To seize this opportunity, the Commission, working alongside Europe’s dynamic and innovative private sector, aims to deepen the integration between research excellence and industrial deployment, with a strong focus on end-users and SMEs. This webinar will explore how industry and other stakeholders can contribute to shaping priorities for Europe’s robotics and manufacturing ecosystems. It will start with robotics as a cross-sector technology and then zoom in on how robotics and AI-driven solutions can support advanced manufacturing. This session is part of a series of Apply AI thematic webinars, focusing on a cluster of strategic sectors to explore practical applications, use cases, and the specific needs of the industries. Securing Code, Fracturing Consensus? Governance of Free and Open-Source Software Cybersecurity in the Age of ‘Digital Sovereignty’ Today, a timely and critical debate is emerging on governments’ role in governing free and open-source software (FOSS) cybersecurity. Often, they have centred FOSS as a tool for ‘digital sovereignty,’ driving competition, innovation and interoperability. Budgets, policies and regulations are shifting, whether mainstreaming FOSS or institutional experimentation. China has embedded FOSS within its Five-Year Plan. The EU’s Cyber Resilience Act introduces the novel category of ‘FOSS stewards.’ Highlighting the successes of Germany’s Sovereign Tech Agency, advocates seek an EU-wide fund for FOSS maintenance. Encouraging an evidence-based approach for policy development and digital diplomacy, this ongoing research undertakes a ‘big picture’ comparative analysis of FOSS cybersecurity policy and regulation from the EU, China, and the USA. The paper charts motivating principles and rhetoric behind their embrace (or lack thereof) of FOSS cybersecurity, encompassing their respective approaches as rights and consumer protection-driven, state-controlled, and market-based. It also compares key structures, features, and tools of those major powers’ cybersecurity policies and regulations involving FOSS, to evaluate compatibility.

To combat the digital divide across its mountainous and low-density areas, the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region has deployed the ERMES project, a publicly owned, high-capacity fibre backbone of ~1,675 km. Powered by ERDF and EAFRD funds, the infrastructure provides wholesale open access and supports a 100 Gbps backbone designed to serve municipalities, schools, hospitals and public agencies that private operators previously struggled to reach. The project also enables the digitalisation of local authorities by supporting a regional data centre and advanced digital public services. With more than 1,300 public buildings connected, ERMES strengthens territorial cohesion, mitigates depopulation trends and sets the foundation for future mobile deployment through new passive infrastructure in market-failure areas. Water Europe
How can we remove hazardous heavy metals from industrial wastewater before they reach the environment? In this IMERMAID Use Case 3 video, we spotlight the 4D Scavenger® technology—an innovative solution tested at SMAT (Società Metropolitana Acque Torino S.p.A.) in Turin, Italy, for the selective extraction of heavy metals from wastewater. Industrial activities often release trace levels of heavy metals such as cadmium, lead, copper, and zinc. Even at low concentrations, these pollutants pose serious threats to environmental and human health, and the EU has established strict discharge limits to prevent contamination. Developed with the support of the University of Florence, the 4D Scavenger® is a next-generation sorbent material designed to: - Selectively remove heavy metals such as Zn, Cu, and Al - Operate efficiently when integrated into existing wastewater treatment processes - Support EU compliance and reduce pollutant loads at the source The solution is part of IMERMAID’s mission to address Contaminants of Emerging Concern through applied research, pilot testing and cross-border innovation. Climate mitigation: climate shelters provide relief during Bologna's heat waves

European Committee o...
Bologna has witnessed particularly hot summer weather in recent years. To tackle this and other consequences of climate change, the City Council decided to put in place measures of climate mitigation. After consulting citizens through a participatory process, the citizens' proposal to install climate shelters throughout the city was made a reality. An innovative approach to public spaces is used, whereby all public spaces are reviewed from the perspective of climate shelters. When a building meets these criteria, it gets selected to become a climate shelter and is equipped appropriately. Public libraries, schools and public gardens are transformed into places that are free of charge and accessible to all, during periods of extreme heat. The City of Bologna also provides a map of these shelters, to promote and facilitate their use, particularly among the vulnerable citizens, such as the homeless and the elderly. In the Valle dei Laghi region of northern Italy, water was once plentiful. However, rising temperatures, changing rainfall patterns and increasing demand are now putting pressure on this vital resource. The competing demands of agriculture, energy production, drinking water supply and ecosystem maintenance are creating new challenges. This video shows how the IMPETUS project collaborates with communities and local stakeholders to co-design adaptation strategies. These include decision support tools, integrated water governance and cultural heritage activation. The aim is to strengthen the climate resilience of this mountainous area. Valentina D’Alonzo from the Eurac Research Institute https://www.eurac.edu/en leads the IMPETUS mountain demo site. Valentina and her team play a key role, as they are developing the decision support system to help decision-makers understand the current situation, explore future scenarios and plan for climate extremes. Stefano Pisoni, a biodynamic winemaker https://www.pisonivini.it/en/ , discusses the impact of drought on vineyards and how sustainable irrigation and soil management practices are helping with adaptation. Bruno Lutterotti, head of the Alto Garda Irrigation Consortium, discusses the need to balance water use for hydropower and agriculture. He talks about how local irrigation systems are evolving in order to manage the increasing competition for water. Innovative medicine manufacturing in the European Union
3 Oct 2025
European Health Foru...
Organised by the European Medicines Agency The ongoing revision of the EU regulatory framework for pharmaceuticals provides a unique opportunity to create a connected and simpler regulatory system that enables innovation to transform our healthcare systems in Europe. Furthermore, innovation cycles have changed – not least because of digital automation and AI, as well as advances in the field of personalised medicine - and regulators are challenged to keep pace with these developments. With this in mind, this session will focus on how the European Medicines Agency, together with the European Regulatory Network, support innovation in the EU across the lifecycle of a medicine, with specific reference to innovative manufacturing. The use of novel manufacturing technologies and analytical techniques for the design, manufacture, and quality control of medicines can help not only improve the quality of medicines, but also improve the supply of existing ones and facilitate the adoption of more sustainable practices with a reduced carbon footprint. New technologies can also bring manufacturing closer to patients, right to the point of care. The session will highlight international collaboration and case studies that have accelerated the manufacturing of innovative medicines and explore how the revision to the EU pharmaceutical legislation will further enhance support for innovation. It will also discuss the challenges of incorporating new manufacturing methods into regulatory dossiers. In this episode of the FSR Policy Briefcase (Season 2, Episode 8), hosts Leonardo Meeus and James Kneebone reflect on Ursula von der Leyen’s 2025 State of the Union address and on the conference marking one year since the Draghi report, where Leo took part in a panel of experts. The conversation revisits Draghi’s diagnosis of Europe’s competitiveness challenges and considers how it holds up in today’s shifting geopolitical and economic context. They explore progress under the Commission’s Clean Industrial Deal, particularly efforts to reduce energy prices, and assess the priorities for the year ahead. The hosts also examine von der Leyen’s call to accelerate the phase-out of Russian fossil fuels, the role of electrification in driving down costs and improving the security of supply, and her proposals for more flexible EU funding and decision-making. Finally, they reflect on how these policy directions relate to Europe’s values and the consistency of the EU’s agenda in a global context marked by instability elsewhere. Recorded in September 2025.

What drives a farmer to embrace #organic practices and find new ways to work with the land? For Virginia Ruspolini, a passionate #farmer and agronomist in Umbria, #Italy, it’s a story rooted in two family traditions: farming and #beekeeping. She’s brought them together at her organic farm, APINCAMPO, to build a #sustainable operation. In this video, Virginia shares her journey and vision for a greener future. She explains the vital role of bees as a superorganism and their importance for the farm's ecosystem. Her passion for sustainable agriculture led her to the #EU-funded LEGUMINOSE project, which became the catalyst for her innovative #intercropping experiment with #einkorn spelt and field #pea. The result? Greater #biodiversity, improved #soil health, and more efficient harvesting. About APINCAMPO APINCAMPO is Virginia Ruspolini's organic farm in Umbria. The name Api in Campo means Bees in the Field, symbolising how she unites her family's farming and beekeeping traditions for a more sustainable agriculture. About the LEGUMINOSE project LEGUMINOSE is an EU-funded project supporting sustainable farming through legume-cereal intercropping. It supports farmers across Europe in incorporating crops like peas and lentils to naturally improve soil health, reduce fertiliser needs, and co-develop innovative solutions through on-farm experiments. Europe's Rail Joint ...
The video compellingly highlights two groundbreaking initiatives in which Trenitalia plays a crucial role within Work Package 18 Robotics Platforms, of the European FP3-IAM4RAIL project, part of the Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking (ERJU). The primary aim is to integrate advanced robotics into key railway maintenance processes, thereby significantly boosting efficiency, enhancing safety and promoting sustainability. The first initiative features the Disinfection Robot (DR), developed entirely within the project in collaboration with SNCF and PKP. This robot is designed to be integrated into sanitation activities and, in the subsequent phase (wave 2), into the cleaning of rolling stock. It advances through scenarios of increasing Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), effectively demonstrating the practical value of collaborative robotics in supporting daily maintenance operations. Adding to this is ARGO, a robot patented by Trenitalia in an Open Innovation initiative with the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna and developed outside of the FP3-IAM4RAIL project. Its integration into the European project aims to enhance and amplify its significant contributions related to neural network training for cooperation scenarios, utilising AI and computer vision techniques for undercarriage inspections. Together, the Disinfection Robot and ARGO exemplify how technological innovation and European collaboration are laying the groundwork for a more digital, safe and efficient railway maintenance system. This advancement ultimately benefits both operators and passengers, setting a new standard for the industry.

European Investment Bank
This week we had a very productive exchange with President Lagarde and the Governing Council of the European Central Bank on the strategic priorities of the EIB to support prosperity, innovation and peace. We welcomed Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, to share insights on how to reinforce the rules-based trade world order and foster investment that brings prosperity and progress around the world. With Irish Taoiseach, Micheál Martin, we signed new financing for key infrastructure to provide clean water to people across the country. Elsewhere we signed new support to expand the Sants train station in Barcelona and to convert an oil refinery into a biofuel plant in Italy. In Ukraine, it is great to see children going back to school in the city of Chernivtsi. It’s one of about 160 schools and kindergartens renovated and repaired thanks to European Union support. Finally, Karl Nehammer soon will join us as EIB Vice-President. The former Chancellor of Austria succeeds Swedish Vice-President Thomas Östros, who has completed his mandate. We wish him all the best for the future. --------------------------------- Visit our website: https://www.eib.org Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/EuropeanInvestmentBank Twitter: https://twitter.com/eib LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/european-investment-bank Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/europeaninvestmentbank/

An investigation by Oceana Europe, Sea Shepherd Italia, Altroconsumo, and OCU reveals a widespread illicit trade in juvenile hake in Italian ports, in violation of EU rules. We found that 91% of trawlers, stalls, and markets in 7 coastal locations sold undersized hake, threatening the recovery of one of the Mediterranean’s most overfished species. 📊 A survey by Altroconsumo shows that 9 in 10 Italians view this as a serious threat to marine biodiversity and call for stronger enforcement. Despite the EU’s 2025 deadline to #EndOverfishing, weak implementation continues to hamper progress.

Confindustria

IFST
Full Title: Digitalising a food factory, a UK manufacturing demonstrator for decarbonisation and gamification This webinar is organised by IFST North of England Branch Much play is made of the need for ‘game-changing’ technologies that will help us to reduce and control our emissions. Tom will present how a food manufacturer-led UK consortium has launched a genuinely new solution, with proven energy and emissions savings, that can be applied in a wide range of manufacturing environments. This is the outcome of the S3 Project (Smart People • Smart Process • Smart Factory) is a world-first technological tool, able to significantly reduce carbon emissions and cost in manufacturing. Designed and developed by a combined academic and industrial consortium, it will help meet the pressing sustainability and cost challenges faced by UK manufacturing industries. The S3 project has demonstrated a unique combination of cutting-edge monitoring, AI-enhanced data analysis and workforce involvement aimed at reducing energy and water use, cutting waste and optimizing production methods to deliver permanent and substantial carbon emission and cost savings. The S3 Smart Factory is now live and has recorded savings of 11% energy usage and 15% reduction in CO2e emissions within in its first seven months of testing and operation, and we are well on our way to achieving our target of a 30% reduction in energy and CO2e emissions as we continue into 2025. Speaker: Tom Hollands Honorary FIFST - Innovation and Technical Director, Raynor Foods Ltd. Tom Hollands is the Innovation and Technical Director at Raynor Foods, he is also Honorary Fellow of the IFST and previously one of its trustees. Tom is an accomplished Food Scientist who has worked in both government (Food Standards Agency) and the private sector. Tom is a true innovator at heart and has won many national and international accolades, in 2024 he was awarded with the prestigious Honorary Fellowship from the Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST), in recognition for his extraordinary contributions to the IFST and wider food system as a food scientist and innovator. Tom’s innovations are focused on sustainability and meta food systems, their emerging technologies and the fascinating and complex links that join them. Chair: Dr Wayne Martindale FIFST - MD at MPC Research Wayne has led product and enterprise carbon footprinting for food manufacturing, service and retail for many years now but it has always been the need for global food security that drives the Wayne’s practice. Much of his work is available in open access articles in our IFST journals. They are written with fellow innovators and if they show one single thing, it is that our food expert community must be diverse as it is rarely defined by a single specialism. This is reflected in the projects that Wayne has delivered ranging from growing food on Mars to using satellite data for efficient cocoa production through to developing new production systems. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Food Science and Technology where he is the Honorary Secretary and a Board Trustee.

With the election of Chancellor Friedrich Merz and the formation of a new German government, expectations are mounting for revitalised German leadership at the heart of Europe. As the EU grapples with a formidable economic policy agenda, shaped by the landmark reports of Enrico Letta and Mario Draghi and influenced by shifting global dynamics under a new U.S. administration, the question arises: where does Europe go from here? In his address to the IIEA, Johannes Lindner, Co-Director of the Jacques Delors Centre at the Hertie School in Berlin, offers a unique vantage point on the evolving policy landscape from Berlin and Brussels. He discusses the EU’s ability to find consensus and deliver on key economic issues, such as common industrial policy, budget reform, increased defence spending, financial integration, regulatory simplification, and transatlantic trade. About the Speaker: Johannes Lindner is Co-Director of the Jacques Delors Centre at the Hertie School in Berlin, where he leads the Centre’s think tank work on economic and financial policy. He also teaches at the Hertie School and is an Honorary Professor at Aston University, Birmingham. The objective of the 'Combatting Disparities in Access to Inclusive Education in Italy, Portugal and Spain’ project (2022–2024) was to support the Portuguese Ministry of Education, the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research and the Spanish Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport in their efforts to improve inclusive education systems and practices. Its goal was to promote equal access and combat regional disparities in implementing inclusive education provisions across the three countries.  The project used a collaborative, bottom-up participatory approach involving policymakers, educators, families and learners to develop tailored recommendations and action plans. It has influenced policy and encouraged peer learning and the exchange of practices. Expert input and broad stakeholder involvement enriched the outcomes. As the project ends, new initiatives are already emerging, and ongoing collaboration is anticipated. This project is funded by the European Union via the Technical Support Instrument and implemented by the European Agency for Special Needs and Inclusive Education, in co-operation with the European Commission. The United States faces a crisis in its pharmaceutical supply chain. Over 70 percent of active pharmaceutical ingredients are made overseas, with China dominating key supply chains and AI-driven manufacturing accelerating its lead. The consequences for Americans include record drug shortages, heightened national security risks, and soaring costs that threaten American patients and U.S. economic stability. It’s time to take action. America has the technology, talent, and urgency to lead in next-generation drug manufacturing, and must make a strategic pivot toward pharmaceutical independence through economic revitalization and modernizing regulation to unshackle AI-driven innovation. Join ITIF, Purdue University, and the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Technology and Education (NIPTE) for a summit on Capitol Hill where top leaders in AI, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and public policy will discuss what must be done. #techpolicy #medicines #manufacturing #AI #Congress #pharmaceuticals #publicpolicy #America

GAPP  is a 45 month Joint Action funded by the EU Health programme aiming at facilitating the development of a common and optimal approach to assess and authorize preparation processes in blood and tissues establishments (BEs and TEs), adapting requirements as prescribed by Article 29 of Directive 2002/98/EC and Article 28 of Directive 2004/23/EC .   This Joint Action will clearly contribute to the implementation of Union legislation in the fields of human tissues and cells, blood, providing tools and training to increase harmonisation of those MS activities that regulate the areas of blood transfusion, transplantation of tissues and cells and assisted reproduction, in strong abidance with art of Annex I of Regulation 282/2014. These are fields of healthcare that involve a considerable amount of movement of donated substances of human origin between MS and also movement of citizens between MS for treatment, particularly in the field of assisted ; Since the directives for these fields were adopted, significant technical developments have taken place and the complexity of preparation processes has greatly increased. Increasing complexity of processing can bring significant quality and functionality improvements for patients, and/or more efficient use of donations, but it can also bring increased risk, particularly as the level of complexity brings the final product towards the borderline with medicinal products. GAPP will ensure that any possible advantage or outcome is taken into account from two ongoing Public Health Programme projects focused on tissues and cells (EuroGTP II and ECCTR) incorporating a need for clinical follow-up data as part of a comprehensive process authorization. GAPP durable output is that a concept of a knowledge sharing platform on PPAs will be developed and fed in order to facilitate sharing of information among European Union, Competent Authorities and all EU CA inspectors and assessors will be trained specifically to assess and authorize preparation processes of tissues, cells, reproductive cells and blood products.

ERNAPE is an association of networks organised by areas. Each network is autonomous. In October 1993, with financial support from the European Commission, a group of researchers working in the field of parents in education in different parts of Europe met in Glasgow to discuss how to increase contact across Europe, to exchange knowledge of research developments in Europe and to stimulate research about parents in education at all levels, including intercultural European research. The group decided to establish ERNAPE (European Research Network About Parents in Education) and to organise this research network by language areas, rather than by countries. Research communication tends to be language-related. There are organisation reasons for this arrangement too. One is that it enables representation on the ERNAPE committee without having a huge (and expensive) committee representing every country. Another is that it encourages area research networks to exist in the field of parents in education without being dependent on ERNAPE. Some areas now have operating networks. In other areas they are still being developed. Thus, ERNAPE is gradually growing as area networks grow. It is our hope that ERNAPE will provide a means to assist these networks to interact.
