The Association also intends to avail itself of the collaboration of professionals and researchers from the various disciplines involved, without neglecting the interdisciplinary nature that speleological research requires, such as: archeology and paleontology for the wealth of finds that the caves preserve and guard, the anthropology and the history of art for the historical and artistic interest expressed by the artificial cavities, as well as by the rock settlements that so characterize and unite Mediterranean cultures, underwater speleology for the presence of coastal caves that can only be explored thanks to this complex discipline, biospeleology for the richness and environmental importance of underground biodiversity and last, but not least, the geology and study of the territory for the protection of karst and karst aquifers which are the precious water reserves of our territories, too often irresponsibly vandalized by disorderly anthropization.

GAPP  is a 45 month Joint Action funded by the EU Health programme aiming at facilitating the development of a common and optimal approach to assess and authorize preparation processes in blood and tissues establishments (BEs and TEs), adapting requirements as prescribed by Article 29 of Directive 2002/98/EC and Article 28 of Directive 2004/23/EC .   This Joint Action will clearly contribute to the implementation of Union legislation in the fields of human tissues and cells, blood, providing tools and training to increase harmonisation of those MS activities that regulate the areas of blood transfusion, transplantation of tissues and cells and assisted reproduction, in strong abidance with art of Annex I of Regulation 282/2014. These are fields of healthcare that involve a considerable amount of movement of donated substances of human origin between MS and also movement of citizens between MS for treatment, particularly in the field of assisted ; Since the directives for these fields were adopted, significant technical developments have taken place and the complexity of preparation processes has greatly increased. Increasing complexity of processing can bring significant quality and functionality improvements for patients, and/or more efficient use of donations, but it can also bring increased risk, particularly as the level of complexity brings the final product towards the borderline with medicinal products. GAPP will ensure that any possible advantage or outcome is taken into account from two ongoing Public Health Programme projects focused on tissues and cells (EuroGTP II and ECCTR) incorporating a need for clinical follow-up data as part of a comprehensive process authorization. GAPP durable output is that a concept of a knowledge sharing platform on PPAs will be developed and fed in order to facilitate sharing of information among European Union, Competent Authorities and all EU CA inspectors and assessors will be trained specifically to assess and authorize preparation processes of tissues, cells, reproductive cells and blood products.

ERNAPE is an association of networks organised by areas. Each network is autonomous. In October 1993, with financial support from the European Commission, a group of researchers working in the field of parents in education in different parts of Europe met in Glasgow to discuss how to increase contact across Europe, to exchange knowledge of research developments in Europe and to stimulate research about parents in education at all levels, including intercultural European research. The group decided to establish ERNAPE (European Research Network About Parents in Education) and to organise this research network by language areas, rather than by countries. Research communication tends to be language-related. There are organisation reasons for this arrangement too. One is that it enables representation on the ERNAPE committee without having a huge (and expensive) committee representing every country. Another is that it encourages area research networks to exist in the field of parents in education without being dependent on ERNAPE. Some areas now have operating networks. In other areas they are still being developed. Thus, ERNAPE is gradually growing as area networks grow. It is our hope that ERNAPE will provide a means to assist these networks to interact.

Making Medicines in America: How Congress Can Help AI, Biopharma & Manufacturing Industries

The United States faces a crisis in its pharmaceutical supply chain. Over 70 percent of active pharmaceutical ingredients are made overseas, with China dominating key supply chains and AI-driven manufacturing accelerating its lead. The consequences for Americans include record drug shortages, heightened national security risks, and soaring costs that threaten American patients and U.S. economic stability. It’s time to take action. America has the technology, talent, and urgency to lead in next-generation drug manufacturing, and must make a strategic pivot toward pharmaceutical independence through economic revitalization and modernizing regulation to unshackle AI-driven innovation. Join ITIF, Purdue University, and the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Technology and Education (NIPTE) for a summit on Capitol Hill where top leaders in AI, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and public policy will discuss what must be done. #techpolicy #medicines #manufacturing #AI #Congress #pharmaceuticals #publicpolicy #America

Through this series of short videos, discover how each city has turned its unique vision into action by testing new collaborative governance models rooted in the values of the New European Bauhaus. From rethinking public space to repurposing industrial sites for social innovation, these cities offer inspiring examples of how collaboration can drive urban transformation. CrAFt is a three-year project (2022–2025) funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme. It bridges the EU Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities and the New European Bauhaus initiative. CrAFt aims to support cities in becoming not only climate-neutral but—true to the spirit of the New European Bauhaus—also inclusive, beautiful, and sustainable. To achieve this, CrAFt brings together key stakeholders including policymakers, local and regional authorities, urban developers, property owners, the cultural and creative sectors, and higher arts education institutions to shape the transition to climate neutrality in cities.

The 'FSR Policy Briefcase' Season 2 episode 2 covers TEN-E, the EU policy for planning and building cross-border energy networks, in light of the Draghi reports recommendations. In particular, it explores the TEN-E's past achievements, its current role, and potential areas for improvement. For this episode, hosts Leonardo Meeus and Emma Menegatti are joined by Catharina Sikow-Magny from the Florence School of regulation. The conversation builds on Catharina's recently published Policy Brief, Making TEN-E into a truly European project. The Draghi report identifies energy network investments as critical to Europe. However, the group discussed how it fails to fully acknowledge the already existing TEN-E framework in its recommendations. The discussion moreover explored the different routes for improvement including EU funding mechanisms, regional coordination, and permitting processes. Why is plastic pollution so dangerous for our seas? And what’s the most unexpected find in Venice’s canals? In this episode, we showcase the results of the H2020 MAELSTROM project tackling this crisis with two high-tech solutions: an AI-powered robotic platform that carefully removes waste from the seabed and a Bubble Barrier that traps plastic in rivers before it reaches the ocean. Scientists warn that plastic pollution won’t stop without prevention, but could these innovations help turn the tide? 🌊 Undercurrents: Transeuropa Festival 2024 🌊 It’s been over a month since we shared the magical experience of Transeuropa in Venice, and its energy is still with us. The voices of the undercurrents flowed through the canals of the city, carried by artists, activists, institutional figures, social centers, organizations and volunteers that came together to spark new conversations and connections. Panels, performances, sunset concerts on the water, exhibitions, community, hydrofeminism, and so much more shaped this extraordinary journey, as you can see through this amazing video summary by Giuseppe Drago. Thank you once again to everyone and all the partners who contributed to the success of the festival – it was wonderful! We can’t wait to meet you again next year for a new Transeuropa adventure, this time under the sparkling lights of Paris. ✨ #TranseuropaFestival #VoicesOfTheUndercurrents #Venice2024

This seminar from 12 November 2024 features Paola Bonizzoni and Giacomo Lampredi from the University of Milan who explore the synergies and risks involved in care coalitions formed by volunteers and professionals within refugee reception systems. Volunteers can build unique connections with migrants, creating more opportunities for housing, jobs, and training. The speakers discuss the importance of monitoring the boundaries between professional and volunteer to seek a mutually beneficial diversity. These efforts aim to prevent care from turning into an excessively individualised endeavour, which could undermine bureaucratic, right-based standards of equity and foster refugees’ dependency instead of autonomy.

Recent shocks, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, have revealed not only the single market's vulnerability in crises, but also the extent to which the EU's competitiveness relies on a well-functioning single market, ensuring unhindered access to the goods, services, and strategic inputs EU supply chains need. Although the single market has generally been a success, recent analyses, including those put forward by Enrico Letta and Mario Draghi in 2024, clearly demonstrate that it remains highly fragmented, limiting EU companies' ability to scale up and compete internationally, and preventing EU citizens from reaping the full benefits. Manufacturing & trade of clean energy technology offers huge economic opportunities

Read the full report: https://iea.li/ETP24 The rapid uptake of clean energy technologies offers major opportunities for countries looking to manufacture and trade them but also presents challenging decisions for governments, which face tensions and trade-offs based on the industrial and trade policies they opt to pursue, according to a new IEA report out today. Energy Technology Perspectives 2024 (ETP-2024) – the latest instalment of the IEA’s flagship technology publication – focuses on the outlook for the top six mass-manufactured clean energy technologies: solar PV, wind turbines, electric cars, batteries, electrolysers and heat pumps. Based on today’s policy settings, the global market for these technologies is set to rise from $700 billion in 2023 to more than $2 trillion by 2035 – close to the value of the world’s crude oil market in recent years. Trade in clean technologies is also expected to rise sharply. In a decade's time, it more than triples to reach $575 billion, more than 50% larger than the global trade in natural gas today. The report, which also looks at key materials like steel and aluminium, provides a first-of-its-kind analytical framework for policymakers as they navigate the dynamic and complex landscape of clean energy manufacturing and trade. Built on a newly assembled bottom-up dataset and quantitative modelling based on countries’ policies, ETP-2024 maps out the current state of clean energy manufacturing and trade and how they are set to evolve. In doing so, it explores how countries at different stages of development can capture the benefits of the emerging energy economy while seeking to ensure secure and cost-effective clean energy transitions. “The market for clean technologies is set to multiply in value in the coming decade, increasingly catching up with the markets for fossil fuels. As countries seek to define their role in the new energy economy, three vital policy areas – energy, industry and trade – are becoming more and more interlinked. While this leaves governments with tough and complicated decisions ahead, this groundbreaking new IEA report provides a strong, data-driven foundation for their decisions,” said IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol. “Clean energy transitions present a major economic opportunity, as we have shown, and countries are rightly seeking to capitalise on that. However, governments should strive to develop measures that also foster continued competition, innovation and cost reductions, as well as progress towards their energy and climate goals.”#energysecurity #energytransitions

EU SME Centre
For small and medium-sized enterprises in the manufacturing sector, corporate compliance management is gradually becoming a topic of critical importance within the current business environment. Compliance is not only a key factor to companies’ economic interests; compliance issues can also affect companies’ reputation and sustainability. On ESG in particular, SMEs in China face significant challenges in navigating the complex regulatory landscape. They are also often constrained by limited resources. Addressing these challenges is crucial for ensuring long-term sustainability and compliance with the regulations. By focusing on operational ESG strategies, SMEs can better align with environmental, social, and governance requirements, which are also increasingly demanded by stakeholders. This includes adhering to stringent EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) requirements. Prioritising ESG initiatives not only helps SMEs meet regulatory demands more effectively. It also fosters sustainable growth and improves companies’ overall impact on society and the environment. 00:00:00 Opening remarks 00:08:31 Compliance from a Financial Perspective 00:32:04 ESG Compliance in China 01:00:15 Panel discussion Disclaimer: The EU SME Centre is a project funded by the European Union. Oiza Queens Day Obasuyi of CILD talks about the push to change Italy’s citizenship law, which deprives so many children who were born in Italy of citizenship. Now, with a right-wing government set to take power, the future is more uncertain than ever. Some 900,000 children born, raised and schooled in Italy are nevertheless denied Italian citizenship. They are denied recognition from the only home they’ve ever known. Why? Because their parents aren’t Italian. Italy’s citizenship is generally based on jus sanguinis – Latin for 'right of blood'. That means that at least one of your parents must be Italian in order for your to naturally get citizenship. Otherwise, even if you are born and lived your whole life in Italy, you have to wait until the age of 18 and then apply through a long, difficult, seemingly designed-to-fail process. Will new far-right government sink reform? But human rights groups are campaigning to change the law. The Speechbag podcast talked to Oiza Queens Day Obasuyi, a junior researcher and program assistant at the Italian Coalition for Civil Liberties and Rights. Will the far-right government of Giorgia Meloni sink any hope of reform? We spoke with Oiza about how politicians either deprioritize the issue or outright oppose reform, couching it in typical xenophobic, anti-immigration rhetoric. In this video, Dries Acke from SolarPower Europe talks about how solar power and aluminium industries share a symbiotic relationship that is essential for advancing Europe's sustainability goals. Aluminium is a key material in solar panel frames and mounting systems due to its lightweight, durable, and corrosion-resistant properties, enabling efficient and long-lasting solar installations. At the same time, aluminium production requires significant energy, and sourcing clean power through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with solar energy producers allows the industry to lower its carbon footprint. This partnership not only supports the growth of renewable energy but also helps aluminium manufacturers meet stringent decarbonisation targets, contributing to Europe's broader environmental and energy transition efforts. #SolarEnergy #Aluminium #RenewableEnergy #SolarPowe #aluminium #PPAs #CRMA #MadeInEurope #CircularEconomy #climateaction ------------------------------------- Learn more about us: Website: http://www.european-aluminium.eu Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/EU_Aluminium LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/european-aluminium-association

Company restructuring in the private and public sectors is no longer exceptional. EPSU, along with other European trade union federations, launched a tool for navigating workers in the face of restructuring. The Transnational Restructuring Navigator (TRN) is a new online, interactive tool that helps worker representatives do exactly that. It provides them with the recommended trade union approach to confronting 11 different types of transnational restructuring. Multiple entrance points on the site take the user directly to the information they are looking for, whether that concerns the type of restructuring, the level of worker representation, or a particular phase of the restructuring. Through an interactive approach, the TRN offers worker representatives practical recommendations, legal references and clear indications about their rights (as well as managements’ obligations) when facing restructuring in multinational companies.

Members of the European Parliament debated a major report that calls for swift action to make the EU economy more competitive. Its author, former European Central Bank President Mario Draghi, says the EU is lagging behind the US and China amid sluggish growth, high energy prices and threats to its security. He told MEPs in Strasbourg an extra €800 billion of annual investment is needed to boost innovation, protect living standards and preserve the European way of life. Many MEPs welcomed his call for action, some demanding more support for key industries and the green and digital transformations. Others argued for freer markets and warned measures to fight climate change can harm economic growth. Read more about it: https://europa.eu/!qjKXDr

🇪🇺 With the release today of Mario Draghi’s report “The Future of European Competitiveness,” the European Commission takes its first step to tackle one of the key priorities of the new Ursula von der Leyen mandate. 🗣️ Our Director, Fredrik Erixon, provides some initial thoughts on the report: There are lots of good insights, lots of good recommendations that come in there. The first thing that occurred to me when I was reading it is to reflect a bit on the core points that he's making and why we haven't had a political process in the EU which have been recognising them to the extent necessary over the past perhaps even ten years. Draghi makes it abundantly clear that Europe has been falling behind in any type of measure that we want to choose when we compare to other OECD economies of size like for instance the United States. #EU #Competitiveness

ECIPE Webinar: Waiting for Draghi - Defining Europe’s productivity problem
12 Jun 2024
ECIPE
Experts discuss EU’s productivity. Europe has a productivity problem. EU productivity lags behind the United States by 20 percent, and the gap is widening in key areas that drive growth, such as research and development spending. Anxious about falling behind, the European Commission tasked Mario Draghi with identifying the causes of this slowdown and proposing solutions to boost European productivity. Understanding and describing Europe’s productivity problem correctly is crucial for setting up the right economic policies. Several factors contribute to Europe’s productivity lag, such as lower business investment and a prevalence of smaller companies. However, a significant number of European companies are highly productive. To improve overall productivity, Europe needs to find better ways to allocate resources to these successful companies so they can become a larger part of the European economy. As we are waiting for Draghi, our expert discussion addresses the following questions: - What is Europe’s productivity problem? - How does Europe’s productivity compare with other major economies? - What is driving Europe’s poor productivity growth? - What are the right policies to boost Europe’s productivity? - How can productivity growth support higher levels of competitiveness in the EU? - Is there a trade-off between productivity and national security?

The sixth webinar of the EUA series Toward Tirana 2024, the Bologna Process and developments in the EHEA discussed the current state of the social dimension in higher education, contrasting institutional perspectives with European policies. The Social Dimension has been extensively explored under the recent cycles of the Bologna Follow-up Group (BFUG) thanks to the work of the Social Dimension Working Group. With the 2020 Rome Communiqué, EHEA ministers adopted the Principles and Guidelines to Strengthen the Social Dimension of Higher Education in the EHEA, and expressed their commitment to implementing these in their respective systems. This webinar took a step back from the BFUG discussions and delved into the experiences and historical context of the social dimension at two higher education institutions and one European Universities alliance. Speakers highlighted the rationale and motivations of various inclusive practices implemented at their institutions, and discussed how they are rooted in institutional strategies. Comunità Energitica Rinnovabile Rosetana APS, referred to more colloquially as Comunità Energetica Rinnovabile di Roseto Valfortore, is a rural EC in Apulia, Italy. The EC celebrated the inauguration of their first 6kW renewable energy installation on January 27th, 2023. The EC is actively pursuing other innovative activities in the near future, by maximising their income with the GSE incentive on shared energy using smart meters, exploring opportunities for storage, e-mobility and district heating. The EC’s “leasing model” is a unique way of reducing the initial financial burden on the community and offers a valuable lesson to other communities in their early stages, as well as the ECs’ ability to take advantage of the incentives available in Italy through self-consumption and shared energy. Currently, the community has 30 members and has a driving ambition to increase self-consumption to cover 100% of its citizens, reducing their financial costs for energy and eventually becoming autonomous from an energy perspective. Traversing European Coastlines (TREC) is a large-scale expedition that studies organisms and ecosystems at the places where the two major ecosystems – land and sea – meet along the entire European coastline. TREC is the first continent-wide project to study coastal ecosystems and their response to the environment, on scales from molecules to communities. Led by the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) together with the Tara Ocean Foundation, the Tara OceanS Consortium, and the European Marine Biology Resource Centre (EMBRC), TREC also involves many national research institutes. The video shows the arrival of EMBL TREC’s Advanced Mobile Laboratory at Stazione Zoologica in Naples in April 2024. The Advanced Mobile Laboratory is a sophisticated laboratory on wheels, which brings cutting-edge technologies to sites around the European coastline to help researchers study ‘life in context’. EUA webinar series - The Bologna Process (V): Protecting fundamental values in the EHEA
27 Mar 2024
European University ...
The fifth webinar in the EUA series Toward Tirana 2024, the Bologna Process and developments in the EHEA provided an overview of current discussions on fundamental values and investigate what these mean for universities in Europe. In recent years, a consensus has emerged that fundamental values, including academic freedom and integrity and institutional autonomy, are under pressure in several European countries. This webinar presented recent discussions on what fundamental values are and how they are being undermined, as well as point to how they can or should be protected, focusing on work conducted within the Bologna Process and in other policy contexts. In addition, the webinar highlighted the role of higher education institutions – their leadership and wider communities – in upholding values. Specifically, it addressed how crises are dealt with at the institutional level and clarify how policy initiatives may support institutions in pursuing values-based approaches. Finally, speakers were invited to reflect on the contradictions and challenges that may be arise when balancing the respect of fundamental values with key strategic decisions of universities. EUA webinar series - The Bologna Process (IV): European QA framework

European University ...
Speakers - Anna Gover, Director, European Association for Quality Assurance (ENQA) - Horia Onita, President, European Students’ Union (ESU) - Maria Kelo, Director for Institutional Development at EUA, will moderate the webinar. The fourth webinar of the EUA series Toward Tirana 2024, the Bologna Process and developments in the EHEA provided an overview of the current discussions about the future of quality assurance in EHEA. Quality assurance has been a key pillar of the Bologna Process from its beginning and is also considered as one of its success stories. Indeed, most countries in the EHEA have now implemented a quality assurance system in line with the requirements of the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the EHEA (the “ESG”), which were first adopted in 2005 and in revised in 2015. However, in recent years higher education provision has been changing rapidly, including the mainstreaming of e-learning, the emergence of micro-credentials, the launch of the European Universities Initiative, and the renewed importance of the third mission of higher education institutions - all of which raises questions about the continued relevance and applicability of the ESG. In addition, there are pressures to widen the scope of the ESG to cover new areas such as academic values, the social dimension of higher education, and the digital and green transitions. This webinar presented the outcomes of the Quality Assurance Fit for the Future (QA-FIT) project, which gathered data on the views and expectations of stakeholders on the future of quality assurance, as well as current discussions within the Bologna Process on the ESG beyond the Tirana Ministerial Conference.
