The safety and security of European economies, societies and citizens rely on space-based applications such as communication, navigation and observation. However, due to the growing complexity of the orbital environment, space-based assets are increasingly at risk from collision with other operational spacecraft or debris. At the same time, objects may re-enter and cause damage on the ground. To mitigate these risks, we need to be able to survey and track such objects, and to provide this information to a variety of stakeholders. The Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST) Support Framework was established by the European Union in 2014 with the Decision 541/2014/EU of the European Parliament and the Council (SST Decision). This Decision foresaw the creation of an SST Consortium currently composed of seven EU Member States – France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Spain. An SST system is a network of ground-based and space-based sensors capable of surveying and tracking space objects, together with processing capabilities aiming to provide data, information and services on space objects that orbit around the Earth. Since 2016, the SST Consortium and the European Union Satellite Centre (SatCen) have worked together to develop a European SST capability, and formed the SST Cooperation. The Consortium’s Member States have networked their assets to provide, through the SST Service Provision Portal operated by SatCen, a set of SST services to all EU countries, EU institutions, spacecraft owners and operators, and civil protection authorities. The SST services assess the risk of in-orbit collisions and uncontrolled re-entry of space debris into the Earth’s atmosphere, and detect and characterise in-orbit fragmentations. The SST Consortium EU Member States are represented through their national designated entities: France (CNES), Germany (German Space Agency at DLR), Italy (ASI), Poland (POLSA), Portugal (PT MoD), Romania (ROSA) and Spain (CDTI).

The Connecting Cultures exhibition comes out of the combination between arts and youth seeking to create a positive impact on society and looking for solutions to global issues while interacting between different societal and political sectors. We endeavour to be an example on how our differences should not be seen as a challenge, a problem or an excuse, but as a tool and advantage which can empower us to help people in need and make the world a better place for everyone regardless the cultural differences. We strive for connecting people and cultures to find a common ground to better understand each other and cooperate towards brighter and stable future. What is Connecting Cultures?Connecting cultures is an international art exhibition promoted by UNSA SPAIN (United Nations Student Association Spain) recently awarded the “Here for Good Award” from Laureate International. Our aim is to raise funds for refugees and enhance awareness about the topic of the immigration in the EU under the umbrella of the Goal 17 “Partnerships for the Goals”. Connecting Cultures groups artists who represent different countries contributing to the art exhibition, namely: Portugal, Greece, Romania, Italy, Taiwan, Brazil, Bolivia, Mexico, Argentina, Sweden, Venezuela, United States, Germany, South Korea, United Kingdom, Russia, Cuba, Colombia, Morocco, Japan, India and Spain. Each painting reflects the spirit of the exhibition, which is to show that there are no borders between humans beyond self-imposed as all cultures´essential needs are to cooperate, shake hands and "connect", offering the best of themselves to the world. The funds raised by the exhibitions are heading to the certified organisation CEAR to directly help refugees.Individuals, groups and businesses can contribute to our work in three ways: purchase of paintings, purchase of reproductions and direct donations to Connecting Cultures. What is our aim?The main goal of Connecting Cultures Initiative is to create a positive impact on society while using art and interaction between different societal and political spheres. Connecting cultures aims to be an example on how our differences should not be seen as a problem, but as a tool and advantage which we can use to make the world a better place. We seek to create a positive impact on society while using art and interaction between different societal and political spheres. We see cultural and people´s differences as a challenge and inspiration how we can get inspired and learn from each other. We see differences as a tool and advantage which empower us and help us to make the world a better place for everyone regardless the origin, skin, gender, age or cultural background. What we connect? More than 20 different countries through their representation per artist and art piece. Different sectors: our partners, sponsors and supporters which encompass NGOs, private sector, businesses, universities, student groups, start-ups, public institutions and more. Ages with the participation of artists ranging from 20 to 70+ years and supporters from youth organizations to eldery institutions. Genders: we put emphasis on gender balance between artists, team and coordination. Opportunities to impact: through our flexible art exhibitions and debates we adapt the way we exhibit and discuss to the needs of stakeholders so we are able to create the maximum impact (solidarity cocktails, activities with refugees, institutional debates…)Connecting Cultures and Sustainable Development GoalsIn order to solve the common challenges such as refugees situation and young people deprivation in conflict zones, all the sectors need to cooperate to reach the origins of the problem and look for a common strategy to find solutions to it. Therefore, the focus of our exhibitions and debates is on the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in cooperation with the European Union which is one of its greatest supporter. The Connecting Cultures Initiative is dedicated to the implementation of the particular 17th Sustainable Development Goal “Partnerships for goals” that highlights the importance of partnerships between the governments, private sector and civil society for having a successful development agenda. The Connecting Cultures is also a part of the ARTS2030 initiative where artists from different backgrounds raise awareness about the Sustainable Development Goals. Oceana was established in 2001 by a group of leading foundations — The Pew Charitable Trusts, Oak Foundation, Marisla Foundation (formerly Homeland Foundation), and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.In 1999, these foundations commissioned a study and discovered that less than 0.5 percent of all resources spent by environmental nonprofit groups in the United States went to ocean advocacy — an appalling statistic. No organization was working exclusively to protect and restore the oceans on a global scale. To fill the gap, our founders created Oceana: an international organization focused solely on oceans, dedicated to achieving measurable change by conducting specific, science-based campaigns with fixed deadlines and articulated goals. The Ocean Law Project — also initiated by The Pew Charitable Trusts — was absorbed into Oceana in 2001 as Oceana’s legal arm. In 2002, Oceana merged with American Oceans Campaign, founded by actor and environmentalist Ted Danson, to more effectively address our common mission of protecting and restoring the world’s oceans.Since its founding, Oceana has won more than 100 victories and protected more than one million square miles of ocean. Climate change is making natural disasters across the European Union more frequent and intense. In the last five years, wildfires in Spain and Portugal have devastated nearly one million hectares of land. Managed from an Emergency Center in Galicia, this Spanish region together with Castilla y León and the North of Portugal have created an emergency plan to prevent and respond to major disasters such as floods, heavy storms, and wildfires. The project aims to benefit some 600.000 people. With the new project underway, coordinated communications, training and new technology equipment will now allow Spain and Portugal to join forces when an emergency strikes. The Cohesion Policy Fund provided 75% of the €4m ARIEM+ budget, while the rest was funded by the regions of Galicia, Castilla y León and the North of Portugal. 17 May is World Telecommunication & Information Society Day Building a sustainable future demands innovative thinking and action, especially in the digital world. WTISD 2024 is a chance to explore how digital innovation can help connect everyone and unlock sustainable prosperity for all. Innovative tech can help tackle the world’s most pressing challenges, from fighting climate change to eliminating hunger and poverty. In fact, digital technologies can help achieve 70% of targets under the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. Yet glaring digital gaps hinder innovation in many parts of the world. The lack of policies, investment, and digital skills leaves many countries struggling to keep up in the fast-changing digital landscape. The whole world needs digital innovation. Together, we can make it happen. Celebrated every year on 17 May, World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) marks the founding of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) – the United Nations agency for digital technologies. 23 Feb 2024
CEJA Young Farmers
Seminar in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain with CEJA members, co-hosted with ASAJA Joven. On our agenda: 📌 Reporting of ongoing activities in CEJA, including institutional and legislative developments reported by myself, and a discussion on the mental health and well-being of young farmers as part of the dedicated summary report of the FARMRes project, excellently coordinated by Mario Béjar Fuentes (he/him) and Anna van de Moosdijk. 📌 Discussions on the last policy paper of the sustainability programme, “Smart farmers for smart farming” - including a workshop with contributions Isidro Campos Rodriguez from the European Commission, Corentin Leroux from Aspexit, Dicky Carstens from MYFARMWEB and Matteo Cunial from xFarm Technologies, who I thank warmly. The paper, led by Vice Presidents Doris Letina and Adam Paweł Nowak and coordinated by Sébastien PEREL, finalised in April 2023. 📌 A day of farm visits at the heart of the beautiful province of Cadiz, including a pitaya farm, an organic vegetables farm with packaging capacity and an olive farm with discussions on harvesting methods. Delegates also had the opportunity to visit the González Byass winery and take part in wine-testing. Every seminar like this one is a reminder of our beautiful mission: bringing young people together, transcending national boundaries and creating a community of action in the farming world.

In this episode of the Stories from the Regions series, we take an electric train from the northern municipality of Sa Pobla to the station of s’Enllaç, located in the middle of the island of Mallorca. The electrification of this line, carried out with the support of EU funding, completes the electrification of the whole railway network. This project has reduced 600 tonnes of yearly CO2 emissions, and it has brought many benefits to the local passengers, including more comfort and reliability. In this video we introduce you Pedro and Álvaro, who are an example of the many citizens that benefited from the electrification. We also talk to Pau and Apolonia, technical engineers who worked on the project and who give us more details on what it entailed. "4 per 1000" Day 2023 - Mr Luis Planas Puchades, Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food
20 Feb 2024
4p1000 Initiative
On the occasion of the UNFCCC COP 28 in Dubaï (United Arab Emirates), the 4 per 1000 Initiative: Soils for Food Security held the 6th 4 per 1000 Initiative Day on Wednesday, November 16th, 2022, in the Dubaï Dusit Conference Hall. The International Initiative 4 per 1000, launched by France on December 1st, 2015, at the COP 21, consists of federating all voluntary stakeholders of the public and private sectors (national governments, local and regional governments, companies, trade organizations, NGOs, research facilities, etc.) under the framework of the Lima-Paris Action Plan (LPAP). The Initiative aims to demonstrate that agriculture, particularly agricultural soils, can play a crucial role in food security and climate change. Supported by solid scientific documentation, this initiative invites all partners to state or implement practical actions on soil carbon storage and the type of practices to achieve this (e.g., agroecology, agroforestry, conservation agriculture, landscape management, etc.). The initiative encourages stakeholders to transition towards a productive, highly resilient agriculture based on the appropriate management of lands and soils, creating jobs and incomes, and ensuring sustainable development.

Eurojust
As part of an already established tradition, the country that holds the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union has the opportunity to display selected artwork in the lobby and on the public floors of Eurojust. At the beginning of the Spanish Presidency in the second half of 2023, artist Bea Sarrias painted a portrait of our building as part of a live performance on location between 3 and 7 July. The project, called ‘European Light’, was an initiative of the Spanish National Desk at Eurojust, with the support of the Ministry of Justice and the Embassy of Spain in The Hague. The painting aims to capture the diverse and changing light of Europe as a metaphor for the need to work together within the EU. The artist was inspired by the light in the building, the colours of the surroundings and Eurojust’s staff, who were able to interact with the artist and watch the entire artistic process unfold. With this video, it's your turn to watch the action and see how Art meets Justice at Eurojust. Spain faces alarming rural depopulation, with a population increase of 15% between 2000 and 2018, but a 10% decline in rural areas. Moreover, women face challenges in farming, with only 19% of farms being run by women in Spain. However, Spain is promoting women's presence in rural areas, offering higher start-up aid and complementary income support. This podcast explores policies promoting women's return to rural communities and successful business start-ups by women.

Recommendations to the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union | Richard Youngs
20 Jun 2023
Trans European Polic...
Prior to the regular TEPSA Pre-Presidency Conferences, TEPSA has a tradition of formulating recommendations to present to the incoming Council Presidency. At the Spanish Pre-Presidency Conference on 1-2 June 2023, TEPSA will present key recommendations to the incoming Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union. These recommendations are formulated by experts from the TEPSA network, without necessarily representing the views of TEPSA or its Member Institutes. In addition to the introduction penned by TEPSA Board Members Nicoletta Pirozzi (Institute of International Affairs), Richard Youngs (Carnegie Europe), and Ilke Toygür (University Carlos III of Madrid), the Spanish Presidency has been presented with three detailed recommendations: - “The Spanish Presidency should maintain momentum in EU enlargement”, Frank Schimmelfennig (ETH Zürich) - “Reacting to economic challenges, striving for low-carbon industry”, Michele Chang (College of Europe) & Marco Siddi (Finnish Institute of International Affairs & TEPSA Board Member); - “New approaches and narratives to the relations between the EU and CELAC”, Jakob Hallgren (Swedish Institute of International Affairs) & Anna Ayuso (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs). The main message of the TEPSA Recommendations is that “As Spain takes over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in July, the main dossiers opened by the Russian aggression on Ukraine – from economic sovereignty to energy security, from defence capabilities to enlargement – are gathering in importance and complexity. In addition, the Union will be busy with the reform of its economic and financial rules, the implementation of the Next Generation EU package, as well as the fraught operationalization of its strategic autonomy. As if all this were not enough, a new electoral cycle will soon start in preparation for European Parliament (EP) elections and renewal of the EU’s top jobs next year.“ #TEPSArecommendations #EU2023ES _____________ TEPSA Website: https://www.tepsa.eu/ TEPSA Twitter: https://twitter.com/tepsaeu TEPSA Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/tepsa.eu TEPSA LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/tepsabrussels TEPSA Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tepsaeu/ Music:The Stratosphere, song by Adam Vitovský This video is co-funded by the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values programme of the European Union Co-funded by the European Union. Spain’s Ministry of Ecological Transition has granted authorization to 132 solar PV projects, amounting to a combined capacity of 24.8GW. As a result, renewable projects in Spain have encountered significant obstacles and inefficiencies caused by substantial delays in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) processes, leading to bottlenecks in their implementation. With such a large number of installations approved, a demand for various services is vital to bring these projects to full commercial operations. Therefore an upgrade to EPC capacity becomes crucial in ensuring the successful completion of these permitted projects. This panel of experts will discuss how these obstacles can be overcome. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 🔗 Links For an overview of upcoming events: http://www.solarplaza.com/events/ Sign up for our newsletter for updates: https://bit.ly/2UwOGy1 👍 FOLLOW US LinkedIn: https://nl.linkedin.com/company/solarplaza_2 Twitter: https://twitter.com/solarplaza

On July 1, Sweden will hand over the Rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union to Spain, which will hold its reins for the fifth time since its accession to the then-European Community back in 1986. During the second half of 2023, Spain will have to steer the EU through troubled waters, making the most of arising opportunities to build a better Europe for the future.
