The food and drink industry, employing million people and generating a turnover of more than €1 bn, is considered the EU’s biggest manufacturing sector in terms of jobs creation and added value. The EU’s food legislation is one of the soundest in the world, and the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) allows to swiftly exchange information on identified health hazards. Nevertheless, public trust in food safety standards could also be undermined by food frauds. In 2016, 243 relevant cases have been exchanged within the AAC system.
This international symposium provides a timely and invaluable opportunity for food safety experts, government agencies, food industry representatives and other key stakeholders to discuss the latest European regulatory reforms and updates regarding food safety and the governance of the food chain. It will also allow delegates to assess the current and future perspectives of the EU’s food law system and of its action against food frauds.
