The rapid increase of new technologies and disruptive innovations are taking the world by storm, and it is safe to say that public transport is one of the sectors most touched by this development. With new and emerging mobility solutions offering both opportunities and challenges to public transport, it is important for GECKO to lead the transition to a model where inclusive and sustainable mobility is available to all.
Recognising the importance of solid governance in the context of new and emerging mobility services, we are happy to announce the launch of GECKO, a new research project tackling exactly this ;
GECKO’s main goal is to support authorities with tools and recommendations for new regulatory frameworks to enhance the transition to new mobility solutions, acknowledging that existing frameworks may be inadequate in terms of protecting society, fostering business development and achieving integrated, sustainable mobility. The project will provide innovative concepts, methodologies and tools to enable this transition to take place, leading to new and flexible regulation and balanced governance that contribute to sustainable mobility goals.
GECKO will outline an implementation plan including actions required up to 2040, aiming to advise policy makers on challenges and policies that need to be addressed to move towards integrated, accessible and sustainable mobility across modes for both passenger and freight transport.
Officially kicking off in December, GECKO will run until 2021 and counts 10 consortium partners. To celebrate its kick-off, a Public Launch event has been organised. The event will be opened by UITP Secretary General Mohamed Mezghani and closed by FIT Consulting CEO Paola Cossu. Alongside an introduction of the project, stakeholders addressed in GECKO will take the stage to share their perspectives on the matter. The event will end with a cocktail reception.
We are aiming to bring a wide range of stakeholders together to share knowledge and ideas at this event, and we would welcome your contribution to the discussions.
PARTICIPATION IS FREE OF CHARGE BUT REGISTRATION IS MANDATORY.
We look forward to welcoming you all.
