Liquid Air on the European Highway report launch

The first study of the cost of diesel powered transport refrigeration and the environmental and economic case for a zero-emission alternative.

Dearman would like to invite you to the launch of a new report, Liquid Air on the European Highway, at the British Embassy in Brussels on 29th  September. Cocktails and refreshments will be served during the launch where we expect a wide-ranging discussion on the report and the upcoming EU Heating and Cooling Strategy. An invitation is herewith attached. The discussion will be moderated by Sonja Van Renssen – Senior Editor and Correspondent (Energy Post).Confirmed speakers and panelists include:Marie Donnelly – Director: Renewables, Research and Innovation, Energy Efficiency (DG Energy)Prof Toby Peters – Visiting Professor in Power and Cold Economy (University of Birmingham), Chief Executive Officer (Dearman Ltd)Dr Karl Dearn – Director of industrial Relations (School of Mechanical Engineering, University of Birmingham)Nick Owen – Chief Technology Officer (Dearman Ltd)Cold chains are a vital but little noticed pillar of modern society; without them the supply of food and medicine would simply break down. In advanced economies such as the EU, a seamless ‘cold chain’ of refrigerated warehousing and transport stretches all the way from the farm gate to the consumer’s plate, and ensures that food reaches people in good condition. In fact, around 70% of food is chilled or frozen during production, and 50% is displayed in refrigerated/frozen cabinets. Cold chains are also vital to ensure the efficacy and safety of many medicines and vaccines. However, transport refrigeration units, the auxiliary systems that keep refrigerated trucks and their cargo cool in transit, are overwhelmingly powered by diesel and are highly polluting and energy intensive.Liquid Air on the European Highway is the first study to investigate the true cost to society of diesel powered transport refrigeration and the social, environmental and economic case for replacing it with a zero-emission alternative.
