Meetings with National Parliaments - Inter-parliamentary Committee Meeting on The situation of the Rule of Law in the EU - 04-12-2023 - Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs

On 4 December 2023, an Inter-parliamentary meeting on the Situation of the Rule of Law in the EU will take place. Members of 17 national parliaments will join the LIBE Committee for three sessions. The opening session will focus on the pilot project launched this year by the Parliament with the aim to establish an inter-institutional framework for evaluating the situation of Rule of Law in five specific Member States each year. Members of national Parliaments from four out of the five Member States selected for this year (Germany, Ireland, Greece and Denmark) will intervene during the session. The second session will focus on the Commission's 2023 Rule of Law Report and the follow-up LIBE report and subsequent Parliament resolution, which is currently under preparation. The final session will be dedicated to the topic of combating corruption in the context of the new Framework on Combating corruption presented this year by the Commission, comprising of a criminal law Directive proposal as well as proposals within the Common Foreign and Security Policy.
