Fire Safety in Buildings: Who Cares?

2nd edition of the European Fire Safety Community Digital Summit.

The European Fire Safety Community is excited to announce that the registrations for its 2nd digital summit are now open. It will take place next 28th October from 14:00

In the coming months, the construction sector will be, with others, at the center of the attention due to its weight on energy consumption, GHG emissions and use of extracted resources:

  • The “Fit for 55 package” under the European Green Deal has been launched and several revisions of EU regulations (ETS, EPBD, REDII, EED, CPR) will be ongoing during Q3/Q4 2021 impacting the construction
  • The COP 26 will take place between the 1st to 12th of November in Glasgow and will strengthen the momentum about all those climate
  • Refurbished and sustainable buildings in the EU will help pave the way for a decarbonised and clean energy system, since buildings are one of the largest sources of energy consumption in Europe, responsible for over a third of EU emissions. So effective action is crucial to make Europe climate-neutral (net-zero emissions) by

In this context, renovating both public and private buildings is an essential action and has been singled out in the European Green Deal as a key initiative to drive energy efficiency in the sector and deliver on objectives: the Renovation Wave initiative aims to renovate 35 million inefficient buildings by 2030 to reduce emissions by at least 55% in 2030 and build the foundations for a climate-neutral Europe by 2050.

If FSEU shares those needed objectives, we also note that millions of buildings, as complex systems, will be deeply modified and no attention has been paid to fire safety so far. Sustainability, Circularity, Energy-Efficiency … and what about (fire) safety? The best way to secure people, infrastructure and investments is to make the buildings fire safe.

The summit will gather stakeholders that all take responsibility for making our buildings fire-safe and strive to secure people, infrastructure, and investments. Make sure you take part in the discussion and register now!
