Governments around the world are seeking to regulate online platforms. Success will depend on the efficacy of oversight - amongst other things - which is particularly challenging given the key characteristics of the platform economy, such as the global reach of large online platforms, information asymmetry, complex business models and impact on fundamental rights.
On Tuesday 23 February, CERRE will present its new issue paper on “New ways of oversight for the digital economy”, discussing how public authorities can oversee online platforms’ application of rules in the platform economy and how they can encourage cooperative relationships with online platforms to achieve public interest objectives. Panellists, including key industry players, regulatory authorities and international organisations, will also consider alternative models of oversight of the platform economy.
The debate, which will be moderated by CERRE Tech, Media, Telecom and Mobility Director Lara Natale, will be livestreamed on the CERRE website (registration link) and YouTube channel (CERRE Think Tank). Viewers will have the chance to ask questions via Slido during the event.
