With many baby boomers now reaching retirement age, we need to be doing everything necessary to bring the next generation of government leaders on board and preserve the current managers’ expert knowledge. It is especially important for public sector organisations to plan an intervention that deals with this current wave of retirement. Thankfully, the discipline of KM has for some time now offered tools and methodologies that help organisations to resolve these types of issues, with knowledge transfer programmes in particular being one of the most efficient ways of ensuring the transfer of critical knowledge between generations.
