In 2016, hundreds of local government practitioners and leaders from 40 countries gathered in Bilbao to endorse the Basque Declaration, outlining new pathways for European cities and towns to create productive, sustainable and resilient cities for a liveable and inclusive Europe. It aims to support and accelerate socio-cultural, socio-economic and technological transformation.
Two years on, this event will bring together city practitioners and experts on climate change adaptation and resilience to discuss efforts to implement the commitments made in the Declaration, in particular the central agenda to adapt to climate change, and reduce the risk of disasters. The cities of Paris and Bilbao will open a dialogue with their peers from the cities of Zadar (Croatia), Padova and Alba (Italy), Almada (Portugal), Athens (Greece), London (UK), Strasbourg (France) and Warsaw (Poland).
