Italian Transmission System Operator TERNA is organising the third Special Workshop of the EU funded Best Paths project. The workshop will present novel technological solutions to upgrade multi-terminal HVDC links.

The innovations are being developed within the Demonstration No 3 of Best Paths, where partners chose the High Voltage Direct Current network that connects Sardinia, Corsica and mainland Italy (called SACOI) as the laboratory for investigating these new HVDC technologies.

Some of these novel technologies are:

• new Voltage Source Converters (VSC) & advanced control functions
• Innovative HVDC converters
• Improved HVDC Extruded Submarine and Land cables for very high voltages
• Innovative insulators for HVDC and DC overhead lines

The workshop will end up with the visit to one of the most technological advanced electric stations in Europe: TERNA’s station in Codrongianos. There, participants will have the chance to see live demonstrations of the latest innovations in HVDC technologies.
