The title of World Capital of Culture and Tourism come in recognition of the city rich and diversify cultural and historical heritage and is destined to support the implementation of sustainable development goals in the city and region and the achievement of Agenda for Humanities objectives for the region.   

The World Capital of Culture and Tourism initiative is designed to:

• Highlight the richness and diversity of cultures in the world
• Celebrate the cultural features and historic patrimony
• Increase the world citizens' sense of belonging to a common cultural area
• Foster the contribution of culture to the development of cities

In addition to this, experience has shown that the event is an excellent opportunity for:

• Regenerating cities
• Raising the international profile of cities;
• Enhancing the image of cities in the eyes of their own inhabitants
• Breathing new life into a city's culture
• Boosting tourism

From October 2017 the World Capital of Culture and Tourism program was recognized as a program of UN Agenda for humanity and Parliamentary Assembly for Ssutainable Development Goals.
