For whom?
Why?
The Energy Efficiency Directive 2012/27/EU (EED) is one of the core pieces of European energy legislation which intends to foster the increase of energy efficiency and has a fundamental role to play in the EU policy towards 2030 objectives.
Energy Audits are one of the most important tools in the EU energy efficiency legislation. Article 8 of the EED, in fact, aims at increasing the number of Energy Audits in industry and the commercial sector. CEN and CENELEC developed the EN 16247 'Energy Audits' series of standards to support the Member states to design energy audit programmes and to ensure high-quality energy audit schemes.
In addition, energy audits are an essential part of EN ISO 50001 'Energy management systems'.
Most Member States transposed EED in 2014 and 2015 and the first round of mandatory energy audits has been completed. A vast amount of data has thus become available constituting an unprecedented opportunity for assessing to which extent Energy Audits succeeded in bringing the energy efficiency goal closer through data from the field and for setting the roadmap to 2019 to make this measure even more effective.
