Food Law in the Eurasian Customs Union

Leatherhead's course on food law in the Eurasian Customs Union (ECU) will provide you with an overview of the regulatory requirements for food imposed by the Customs Union in Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia.

The Eurasian Customs Union (ECU) or the Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia came into existence on 1 January 2010. The Customs Union was launched as a step towards forming a European Union-like economic alliance of former Soviet states which allowed a single economic space where most internal trade has been liberalised. The legislation in the ECU is in many ways similar but also uniquely different from EU food legislation. For those interested in developing business in this region, it is the region-specific nuances, the language, and the cultural background that add to the challenge of understanding, correctly interpreting, and keeping up-to-date with the continuously changing regulatory landscape of this trade bloc.Leatherhead’s unique Food Law in the Eurasian Customs Union training course has been launched in response to the growing demand for insight into, and knowledge about, this vast and quickly developing market. The course is ideal for food industry personnel wishing to establish a working knowledge and awareness of the principles and application of current and upcoming food legislation in the ECU.You will learn about the relevant institutions, understand how food legislation is structured, gain an insight into the main requirements of food safety and hygiene, and receive an overview of food additives and flavourings legislation. You will also learn about the provisions of food labelling before putting into practice what you have learned in an interactive labelling workshop. Furthermore, you will be guided through the most important sources of regulatory information. Throughout the course, special attention will be given to the existing national requirements in the three member states Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia.
