A Practical Approach to Sensory and Consumer Statistics
Provides an excellent overview of the range of statistical techniques commonly applied to sensory data, with a focus on the practical application of the techniques using real-life examples and exercises.
A Practical Approach to Sensory and Consumer Statistics will introduce you to the basic statistical concepts underlying the techniques commonly used to analyse and interpret sensory data. Each technique will be explained using real-life examples and you will learn the strengths, limitations and typical applications of each of the techniques covered. You will also practice carrying out the tests, using specialised statistical software where appropriate, and will apply your learning through interpreting the outputs of the tests under the guidance of our experienced tutors.Topics covered include:Basic statistical concepts – types of data, scales, normal distribution, probabilities, Parametric vs. non-Parametric Tests, summary statisticsStatistics underpinning Sensory Discrimination Tests – Triangle Test and the Paired Comparison TestANOVA and Multiple Comparison Tests – application to Difference-to-Control and sensory profile dataUsing Principle Component Analysis to interpret sensory profile dataAnalysis of consumer data – Clustering and Preference Mapping
