EU transport policyThe long-term objectives for EU transport policy are set out in the White Papers prepared by the DG MOVE every ten years. The current White Paper „Roadmap to a single European transport area - Towards a competitive and resource-efficient transport system” (EC, 2011a) is based on a vision for a competitive and sustainable transport system and sets out the EU transport strategy for the coming decade. This strategy comprises coordinated activities grouped under three focal points:1. A Single European Transport Area, aims at completing the internal market through effective interoperability and competition within the EU transport system.2. Innovating for the future, presents a strategy for transport research, innovation, and deployment, and for innovative mobility patterns.3. Modern infrastructure, smart pricing and funding, is targeted at creating a European mobility network to meet transport demand in an efficient and environmentally-friendly way and sets incentives for sustainable usage.
