Europe is a continent of culture. Its rich historical heritage is now in the process of becoming digital. This paramount enterprise needs the collaboration of all kind of actors, public, private and finally also the citizens. 7th Framework Programme WP2013 for research, innovation and development emphasizes the challenges and opportunities of Europe regarding Culture, Creativity and Education:”The culture and creative industries are a powerful motor for jobs, growth, exports and earnings, cultural diversity and social inclusion, representing 4.5% of total European GDP and accounting for 3.8% of the workforce. European industries, in particular small and medium enterprises, are increasingly faced with the need to be more productive, innovative and dynamic in responding to the changing market needs”.How artists can integrate research in their work, leading to new ideas, new research, a valuable artistic result and a broader understanding of each communityDeveloping a user-driven approach to digital heritage field in Europe: User engagement and multi-stakeholder collaborationLiving Labs as open laboratories to experiment in the innovative use and re-use of cultural content by the creative industry and to demonstrate results through prototypes How to integrate design disciplines into Living Lab approaches, create a common language and build a joint vision of user-centred innovation among Living Labs and Design for All professionals.Featuring the launch of the Art&D Call - Interplay between the arts and researchArt&D is a yearly program of project grants for artists (individuals or collectives) for projects that include ICT research (and collaboration with researchers) launched by iMinds (ENoLL effective member). Especially projects on video, image analysis and compression, 3D, networking, distributed software, metadata, security stand a chance to be selected. The grant covers the costs of the technological research that is being carried out in the framework of the project.
