New indicators for better education policies

Gallup Learn(at)Lunch:

Youth unemployment has reached record levels in many European countries, highlighting the difficulties faced by the young generation to integrate into society.  Persistent school dropout rates across Europe threaten the future given demographic trends. In addition school systems are increasingly facing challenges to adequately prepare pupils with the right skills and capabilities to make best use of their talents.  This undoubtedly has a negative impact on children’s and parents’ wellbeing, on Europe’s economic growth, its potential for innovation, its welfare system and its social and societal environment. To help policy-makers meet these important long term challenges, better data and indicators are needed to allow them but also school leaderships to monitor the situation in schools effectively and ultimately enhance the education framework both at the policy and the practical levels as well as the learning outcomes. Therefore Gallup and the Institute for Advanced Behavioural Studies are pleased to invite you to discuss these matters at a special workshop on “Fostering wellbeing at schools for the benefit of all: New indicators for better policies”. After a presentation of the latest Gallup Education Practice’s evidence in the matter, experts from the OECD, UNESCO, UNICEF as well as the European Commission (DG Education and Culture) will be invited to debate these issues and give their views on “How to change the school learning environment for the benefit of all?”.All participants of this event will also be invited to intervene and ask questions. A walking lunch will be served after the event.
