Responsibility Deal

The Responsibility Deal is an attempt by UK government to get industry, the individual and others to work together to promote public health. It particularly focuses on harnessing the valuable contribution that business can make.

Growing concern about poor public health and wellbeing has focused, amongst other issues, on its links to rising levels of obesity, alcohol misuse and physical inactivity.The recognition that stakeholders and individuals have a shared role to play in improving public health forms the basis for the Responsibility Deal.The Responsibility Deal is an attempt by government to get industry, the individual and others to work together to promote public health. It particularly focuses on harnessing the valuable contribution that business can make.This seminar will consider the background to the Deal, looking in detail at what it entails and the implications for the food industry. It will focus on the Food Network, the technological challenges involved in delivering its key commitments relating to salt, out-ofhome nutrition labelling and trans fat elimination, before considering behavioural change and consumer attitudes.
