Child Protection Online

Privacy for Children & Reporting abuseRegistrations are now closed, if you have an EP badge and you would like to attend, please notify the British Chamber Team

Children are the most vulnerable group in society and are growing up as ‘digital natives’. The ease of access to the internet through mobile devices and game consoles creates a potential risk of exposure to illegal content and abuse of their privacy. A key task is to ensure a level of commitment from stakeholders to promote the protection of the children from online abuse. In order to maintain a safe digital environment for children it is essential to ensure an effective cooperation amongst online service providers, hotlines, NGOs and law enforcement authorities around the World. Reporting is key to tackle the global issue of illegal content online and is crucial to shape a balance between ‘freedom of the internet’ and ‘Sharing responsibility for protecting children by government, educators, parents and the Internet industry’. Keynote speech by Robert Madelin - Director General, DG INFSO, followed by two panel sessions.
