Objective: The objective of the symposium "Societal Impact of Pain" is to create a platform for discussion between pain specialists, health care assessors, politicians, budget holders and strategic decision makers in the European Union on pain related topics. In May 2010 almost 200 high-ranked decision makers from all over Europe participated and discussed issues related to pain. Following the positive responses of the symposium 2010, the European Federation of IASP Chapters (EFIC) and Grünenthal have committed to organise and support the second symposium on the "Societal Impact of Pain".European Parliament: Member of EU Parliament Dr Jiri Mastalka and MEP Dr Milan Cabrnoch have both offered to host the entire symposium with all session in the EU Parliament in Brussels on 3&4 May 2011. The objective of the meeting is to raise awareness on the "Societal Impact of Pain" with authorities, politicians and budget holders.Organiser: The scientific framework of SIP 2011 is designed under the responsibility of the European Federation of IASP Chapters (EFIC) and is endorsed by a number of patient advocacy and scientific organisations.
