Societal Impact of Pain (SIP)

An EU platform for discussion between pain specialists, health care assessors, politicians, budget holders & strategic decision makers on pain topics.

Objective: The objective of the symposium "Societal Impact of Pain" is to create a platform for discussion between pain specialists, health care assessors, politicians, budget holders and strategic decision makers in the European Union on pain related topics. In May 2010 almost 200 high-ranked decision makers from all over Europe participated and discussed issues related to pain. Following the positive responses of the symposium 2010, the European Federation of IASP Chapters (EFIC) and Grünenthal have committed to organise and support the second symposium on the "Societal Impact of Pain".European Parliament: Member of EU Parliament Dr Jiri Mastalka and MEP Dr Milan Cabrnoch have both offered to host the entire symposium with all session in the EU Parliament in Brussels on 3&4 May 2011. Being able to organise the whole event at the EU Parliament provides a unique opportunity to raise the awarenes on the relevance of the "Societal Impact of Pain" at the highest level. The objective of the meeting is to raise awareness on the "Societal Impact of Pain" with authorities, politicians and budget holders.Organiser: The scientific framework of SIP 2011 is designed under the responsibility of the European Federation of IASP Chapters (EFIC) and is endorsed by a number of patient advocacy and scientific organisations. The pharmaceutical company Grünenthal GmbH is responsible for logistic support, preparation and organisation. The event will be kindly co-hosted at the European parliament by Dr. Jiri Mastalka MEP and Dr. Milan Cabrnoch MEP.Participants: We wish as many stakeholders as possible to be in a position to attend the symposium, therefore no registration fee is required to attend the sessions. However, due to the limited amont of available places registration is restriced to active health care budget holders, health care policy makers, strategic health care decision makers and senior representatives of pain patients or organisations representing health care professionals in the area of pain, pain care and pain treatement.Registration: Participants are asked to register by using the online registration form available at regonline.com/SIP-2011-registration.
