The Security of European Gas Supply

A high-level panel debate organised by Wintershall/Wingas, and followed by a cocktail reception.Registrations:

As the cleanest fossil fuel, natural gas plays a vital role in meeting energy demand, while helping to achieve CO2 reduction targets. The increased substitution of other fossil fuels with natural gas has made the biggest single contribution to reducing CO2 emissions in Europe since 1990.In 2030 primary energy consumption is expected to be 11% higher than in 2005. In a context of increasing demand and declining domestic production, Europe will need to import more gas and secure access to new reserves. The EU has set energy security as a top priority for the next legislature, and acknowledged the need to mobilize investments in urgently needed energy infrastructure. As the EU reviews its policy strategy, this conference aims to stimulate an open debate amongst key stakeholders from the business, political and scientific communities on securing a sustainable and safe energy supply for Europe and its citizens. Panel:- Hannes Swoboda MEP, Member of the European Parliament, Shadow Rapporteur (S&D) on the proposed Regulation on the security of gas supply- Jean-Arnaud Vinois, European Commission, DG Transport & Energy, Head of Unit Energy Policy & Security of Supply- Dr. Gerhard König, CEO of WINGAS & Board Member of Wintershall- Adina-Ioana Valean MEP, Member of the European Parliament, Shadow Rapporteur (ALDE) on the proposed Regulation on the security of gas supply (tbc)- Michael Schmöltzer, Head of the Gas Department of the Austrian regulator, E-control - Paul Corcoran, Financial Director, Nord StreamModerator:- Simon Blakey, Senior Associate European Energy, Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA)
