CATER Workshop on Mass Customization of Vehicles

The CATER workshop aims at discussing, learning, and sharing on the future of mass customization in the automotive field.

Mass customization is a key issue to enable manufacturers to address customer needs efficiently, and thus improve their competitive advantage. Efficient tools and methods for Mass Customization, relying on a better use of ICT would leverage the market potential of automotive companies. Mass customization is the core research goal of the CATER project, a 3-year initiative supported by the European Commission under the FP6..The CATER project is halfway through its research life and has developed several innovative tools to support mass customization, based on the concept of citarasa or emotional intent, as for example a novel data capture tool that elicits customers citarasa and mood impressions online, VR interfaces for customization of vehicles addressing the customer and the product planner, a web-based DIYD interface for the customer, 3D and 2D search and retrieval tools supporting the interfaces, a middleware for aggregated knowledge representation, access and retrieval, advanced planning and scheduling systems, etc.Several thematic sessions will be organised, addressing the various aspects of mass customization in the automotive field, and we firmly believe the workshop, together with the exhibition will provide a forum for international exchange and a unique opportunity to experience demonstrator systems that are beneficial for business revival.
