Ms Inés Ayala Sender is a Member of the European Parliament’s Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN), and a Substitute in the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) as well as in the Committee of Inquiry into Emission Measurements in the Automotive Sector (EMIS), amongst others. She studied Spanish, English, law and sustainable development at the University of Zaragoza and at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, and started her political career as an Executive Member of the Spanish General Workers Union responsible for social action between 1990 and 1994. She then went on to become a national expert in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Environment until 1997, before working as a policy adviser in the European Parliament, notably in the TRAN and ENVI Committees, for the Party of European Socialists group. She was elected as Member of the European Parliament in 2004 for the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party and was re-elected in 2009 and 2014.
