50th Meeting of the International Charter Space & Major Disasters

The Charter provides satellite data to support coordinated responses to worldwide disasters

This event is organised and co-hosted by EUMETSAT who will take over the six month, joint leadership period of the Charter from October 2023, together with Canadian Space Agency (CSA).

The International Charter is a worldwide collaboration of space agencies and space system operators who work together to provide satellite data and imagery for humanitarian use in the event of disasters.

By combining Earth observation assets from different space agencies, the Charter allows resources and expertise to be coordinated for a rapid response to major disaster situations, thereby supporting civil protection authorities and the international humanitarian community.

This unique initiative is able to mobilise agencies around the world and benefit from their expertise and their satellites through a single access point that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at no cost to the user.

In addition to the space agencies that form the Charter, national and regional disaster monitoring organisations also support the Charter's efforts as co-operating bodies. Members and co-operating bodies together provide support to those in need following major disasters, and benefit from the wide distribution of data that the Charter offers.

This meeting will take place at EUMETSAT offices in Darmstadt for representatives of charter members and charter partners.
