RAN POL Webinar - Challenges of anti-government extremism and new protests for police

We are pleased to announce that the registrations for the RAN Police Webinar "The challenges of anti-authorities extremism and new protests for police”, on 05 December ( - CET), are now open.

The target audience of this webinar are police officers and experts. Privacy is important and in previous instances police indicated to prefer to have safe space to discuss each other. Like previous police webinars it will not be recorded.

This webinar focuses on the challenges for police regarding in dealing with anti-government extremism, how to draw a line between civic activism and extremism and the new way it influences protests. The webinar will be a follow-up of the RAN POL meeting ‘the challenges of anti-government extremism for police’ on 23 and 24 June 2022 in Copenhagen, Denmark. This webinar aims to disseminate the recommendations and best practices from this meeting in Copenhagen to a wider police audience via a short webinar. Additionally, the objective of this webinar is to help police understand the balance between dealing with the challenges in facilitating new escalated and sometimes radicalising protests.

Two approaches will be presented by Tim van Groenewegen (Dutch Police North-Holland North) and Carl-Johan Ahlström (Swedish police) TBC. The speakers will respond to the following questions during their presentations:

  • How can police deal with challenges in facilitating protest while the nature of the protests are anti-authorities?
