Meeting the objective specified in the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to ;C depends on sub-national authorities successfully and rapidly managing a cross-sectoral transition of European energy systems towards a secure and sustainable low-emission energy supply and infrastructure.

This interactive session, jointly organised by ICLEI alongside the Committee of the Regions, DG ENER and the C-Track 50 project, will focus on best local practices and strategies, as well as on understanding the challenges and obstacles local authorities across Europe are faced with as they strive for climate neutrality.

Through voicing the perspectives of key stakeholders from European, international, local and community levels, the session aims to discuss a set of key challenges, multi-dimensional strategies, and solutions to enable stakeholders on all levels to achieve a climate neutral energy system.

The plenary discussion will wrap-up with a World Café, which will propose concrete measures, instruments and international, European and local policy frameworks to be set in place within the next years for accelerating a just and cohesive energy transition.

The session will feature policy makers, as well as practitioners to engage participants in in-depth discussions on key strategic initiatives, frameworks and contexts for a successful transition, such as smart cities, community-based renewable energy, climate and energy transitions on islands, coal regions in transition, energy poverty and citizens for climate.
