Interventions to increase energy efficiency through consumer behaviour: Helping achieve Europe’s climate objectives

Energy efficiency needs to play a central role if the EU is to succeed in reaching net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Consumers, and the choices they make, have the power to reduce the carbon footprint of the economy, while bringing co-benefits to themselves and society. More knowledge about consumer choices can help policy-makers and industry to address barriers to the low-carbon transition.

After a keynote by Hans van Steen, Acting Director, Renewables, Research and Innovation, Energy Efficiency, DG ENER, European Commission, this seminar will present insights from three EU funded research projects that have evaluated implications of innovative behavioural tools to stimulate energy efficiency and accelerate the low carbon transition. The panel will discuss the policy options proposed by the projects and whether these can help Europe reach its climate and energy objectives.
