Language is key to knowledge and social participation. Already in primary school, the skills gap should be closed through systematic language-promotion. Experiments on natural scientific phenomena in everyday life with an inquiry-based approach are particularly suitable for the promotion of language skills.
In the Science on Stage project 'Lilu's House: Language Promotion through Experiments', an international teacher team of ten primary school teachers developped a teaching brochure that offers specific ideas and practical advice for hands-on experiments. The results of the project are now published in a new brochure. Students explore their everyday life in bathroom, kitchen and living room with scientific experiments and acquire language skills. These experimental units are completed by methodological recommendations.
After the presentation interested teachers are invited to participate in two workshops based on the teaching units of the brochure.
