Brussels Briefing 51 “Agriculture as an engine of economic reconstruction and development in fragile countries”

(27/06/2018; 09:00 to 13:00) Agriculture brings incredible potential for fragile states in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific, with successful agribusiness and innovations, partnerships and policy developments creating new opportunities in this field.

The Brussels Development Briefing no. 51 on ”Agriculture as an engine of economic reconstruction and development in fragile countries ” will take place on 27 June 2018 from 09h00 to 13h00, ACP Secretariat, Brussels 451 Avenue Georges Henri, 1200 Brussels. This Briefing will be organised by the ACP-EU Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA), in collaboration with the European Commission / DEVCO, the ACP Secretariat, and CONCORD.

This Briefing will discuss the role of agriculture in promoting the resilience of fragile countries, and the initiatives, partnerships, policy developments that have been successful in this field.

In particular, the Briefing will feature an exchange of views and experiences around the ways that resilience is strengthened through agriculture, and the transformative opportunities for entrepreneurs, including for youth and women, to create livelihoods even in fragile countries. It will share best practices and achievements across ACP countries from the private and public sectors, and will discuss the factors for success, their replicability, and potential for upscaling.

The intended outcome of the Briefing is to contribute towards successful strategies and partnerships that will promote sustainable, resilient and inclusive agriculture in fragile countries, and identify promising opportunities across value chains with insight from policymakers, research networks, private sector representatives, experts, civil society groups, development practitioners, and international organisations.

The audience will be ACP-EU policy-makers and representatives of EU Member States, civil society groups, research networks and development practitioners, private sector and international organisations based in Brussels. Representatives from the ACP regional organisations and the private sector will also take part in the event.
