THE VICTIMS OF A FORGOTTEN CONFLICT

Panel Discussion: THE KASHMIR CASE

The Kashmir Council-EU will hold a panel discussion on the 6th of December to mark the eve of International Human Rights Day and draw attention to the plight of the Kashmiri people, victims of a forgotten conflict.

Seven decades on, and Partition continues to haunt the Kashmir Valley. Since 1989, under the Indian occupation, more than 70,000 people have died, more than 8,000 people have simply disappeared, more than 6,000 mass graves have been filled, and there have been countless cases of torture and sexual violence. Moreover, the use of pellet guns as a nonlethal option has reportedly resulted in at least 300 hospitalizations in Srinagar, including 16 cases in which the patient lost their sight completely.

This panel discussion will show the men, women, and children who have been injured, who have lost loved ones, and who live every day with the knowledge that it could happen again at any time that they have not been forgotten. During the meeting, we hope to be able to have a video link with Insha Mushtaq or Ifra Shakour, two of the hundreds of teenagers who have become pellet guns' collateral damage.

The programme will be shortly available on the Kashmir Council-EU website.

Please note, that registration closes on 4th December 2017, and feel free to forward this invitation to who may be interested.
