Security is based on knowledge – measures can only be taken to deal with existing risks once threats have been detected and classified and this is particularly relevant for the detection of dangerous objects, such as explosives or weapons, which is crucial in providing maximum security at sensitive sites and public places. In order to ensure the detection of such threats number of technologies exist, from metal detectors to X-ray imagery. However, with the rise of digital signal processing, radars have developed and are now a valuable part of the imaging toolbox.
This Masterclass will cover full aspects of radar-based imaging, beginning with the basic principles behind the technology. Different ways of image generation are presented illustrating the trade-off between performance and system complexity, and this Masterclass will cover aspects of hardware design including analogue front-end design, antennas and completely integrated radar-on-chip solutions. Also addressed will be advanced ways of dealing with radar images, such as sensor fusion, cognitive radar and state-of-the-art radar imaging systems and this illustrates the broad set of possible applications to enhance your security systems.
