The Covenant of Mayors and Mayors Adapt Ceremony 2015
This high-level event hosted by Miguel Arias Cañete, Member of the European Commission in charge of Climate and Energy, will acknowledge the crucial contribution and commitment of towns and cities to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
This year, the Covenant of Mayors and Mayors Adapt ceremonies will be held jointly, as part of a unique bottom-up movement of local authorities.
On the occasion of this 2015 ceremony, the European Commission will officially announce the launch the new Covenant of Mayors, as a follow-up to a recent consultation conducted by the Covenant of Mayors Office with the support of the Committee of the Regions.
Ahead of the COP21 Conference in Paris, Signatory cities will be invited to endorse a new post-2020 Covenant which:featuresa new target of at least 40% reduction in CO2emissions by 2030;includes both the mitigation and adaptation pillars through the integration of the Covenant of Mayors and Mayors Adapt;reinforces the external dimension of the Covenant of Mayors.
