CARE - Creativity and Reuse for Empowerment

Training Course co-funded by the Erasmus + Programme

In the period of 09th – 17th of May 2015 the “Creativity And Reuse for Empowerment - CARE“ Training Course will bring together 30 youth workers, youth advisers, project leaders, social artists working with young people from 14 EU countries, such as Italy, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Greece, Slovenia, Latvia, Romania, Belgium, France, Bulgaria, Croatia, Poland and Cyprus. This 8-day-long Training Course – funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, Key Action 1, Mobility project for youth workers– is based on the theme of sustainable development and its three key dimensions: economic, social and environmental. Sustainability, creativity and inclusion are seen as the cornerstones to promote empowerment process. CARE believes in the potential of youth work towards stimulating this process, as young people can be the best promoters of creative projects involving youngsters in social life of local communities. CARE aims to enhance the sense of inventiveness and entrepreneurship of participants, and address the question of building an active and inclusive society. BackgroundPromoting sustainable development is one of the key priorities of the European Union. In the framework of 2015 EU year of Development, it has to point out that development must be based on 3 key dimensions: economic, social & environmental and built through bottom-up approaches involving population by promoting participation and active citizenship. Nevertheless, statistics show that we are far from achieving this benchmark. In fact, even if EU 2020 strategy fixes 20 million people out of risk of social exclusion as headline target, today more than 24% of all the EU population are at risk of poverty or social exclusion and the situation seriously affects young people, Against this background, the EU Youth Strategy points out the need for young people to develop as autonomous citizens, able to live independently, engage in civil society emphasizing participation, non-formal and informal learning. What, when, who and how?The CARE will take place in Baida, at the outskirt of Palermo, from 09th to 17th May 2015. It will involve 16 partners and 30 participants from the youth work field such as youth workers, youth advisers, project leaders, social artists working with young people. Participants will be involved in different kind of activities, such as workshops on creative reuse, sessions on social exclusion/inclusion, artistic and creative activities, visits of local centres involved in creative reuse projects of abandoned and confiscated places, activities based on the Reciprocal Maieutical Approach
