Combatting satellite interference with IRG, Newtec and SAT Corporation

SMi

The satellite industry is growing at an explosive rate. Over the last few years, engineers and technicians have been providing reliable and accurate satellite services to customers. The industry brings in a lot of crucial services to a wide variety of customers and applications. With the growth in satellite reliability and use, there has been a rapid increase in the incidents of satellite interference. Large satellites can experience up to 100 interference events per month. For several years, broadcasters and satellite industry leaders have attempted to combat satellite interference. (Source: Broadcast & Cablesat, Combating Satellite Interference, 2014)Satellite services are widely used by the commercial sector and the military. Reliance on detecting minute signals in a fog of radio frequency “noise” interference, either unintended or deliberate, is a challenge for all trying to maintain assured and reliable communications links.SMi's masterclass will discuss the technology and tools used to mitigate interference through commercial sector initiatives and explore how interference is managed and reduced. Presenters from the IRG, SAT Corporation and Newtec will look at the challenges posed by this important issue, identify current and potential solutions, describe what is being done within the satellite community to ensure that robust satellite communications can be sustained as services rapidly expand. Key benefits to this masterclass are: • Gain a better understanding of the key causes of interference • Understand how the external environment can impact operations and cause satellite interference • Gain knowledge of the tools and technology available for mitigating satellite interference•Gain a better understanding of the current global initiatives for satellite interference mitigation
