During this Press Conference 5 calls to “wake up” Europe on the innovation front will be delivered as a result of the 5th European Innovation Summit, taking place from 30 September to 3 October. The Summit gathers 5 commissioners, 25 MEPs and a wide range of leading stakeholders from the industry and academia to participate in 25 events in order to reflect on the following question: what are the crucial steps to be made in the implementation of policies and instruments in order to put Europe back on the map of the innovation strong economies? We know that the level of the innovation potential in Europe is extremely high and that many important innovations originate from European research facilities and companies. However, it can be agreed that Europe has failed to efficiently bring the innovation to the market. What crucial steps are to be made in the implementation of policies and instruments? What needs to be done to bridge the innovation gaps and overcome the Innovation barriers, which render an innovation friendly climate impossible, or indeed, less possible then in the leading Innovation strong economies? What are the key innovation drivers that have to be given more strength and emphasis? 5 calls to “wake up” Europe on the innovation front will be delivered as a result of the summit, summarising key directions for the implementation of future measures and to put the EU back on the map of the innovation strong economies.Speakers:Lambert van Nistelrooij, MEP, Chairman of the K4I Forum Governing Board, Rapporteur of the Structural Funds 2014-2020Prof. Jerzy Buzek, MEP, Vice Chairman of the K4I Forum Governing Board, former President of the European ParliamentFriedhelm Schmider, President, Knowledge4Innovation; General Director, ECPAGernot Klotz, Executive Director Research and Innovation, CEFICKristin Danielsen, International Director of The Research Council of Norway; Chair, EUREKAPierre-André Marchal, CEO of ENERSENS
