Wood as solid biomass: the next biofuel Disaster?

While the move towards a decarbonised economy is laudable, an unintended side effect is that it

EU policies are boosting renewable energy sources and supporting biomass as a substitute to fossil fuels. While the move towards a decarbonised economy is laudable, an unintended side effect is that it’s becoming more profitable to sell wood for energy than for construction or furniture making.  Many questions remain unanswered: How will subsidies for biomass affect the market for wood, and ultimately the environment?  What effects will this have on the  European wood industry, jobs and government revenues? At the event, representatives of the EU Institutions, the woodworking industries, NGOs and other stakeholders will address whether wood as solid biomass will become the next biofuel disaster.  Renowned artist Arne Quinze (creator of the The Sequence and of Cityscape ) will talk about his experience working with wood. Please RSVP to info [AT] europanels [DOT] org
