The visibility of the European Court of HumanRights (ECtHR) in Strasbourg has considerablyincreased in the past years.With the growing numbers of applications lodgedbefore the Court, the Court is becoming ever stricterconcerning the fulfilment of the admissibility criteria.It is therefore indispensable for a defence lawyer torespect them.A practitioner who has represented applicants beforethe ECtHR will explain the different elements of theprocedure, including the admissibility criteria: Whatnational remedies must be sought before submittingan application to the Court in Strasbourg? Whatdocuments have to be submitted? What is theobjective of the written and the oral parts of theproceedings?
