Greg Adamson is the President of the IEEE Society on Social Implications of Technology, and Chair of the IEEE Ethics, Society and Technology initiative. He initiated the IEEE conference series Norbert Wiener in the 21st Century, focussed on the early pioneer in cybernetics (the “cyber” in everything), held in Boston in 2014 and Melbourne in 2016.
He is working to raise awareness of Wiener’s views on the ethical, economic and social impacts of intelligent machines on society. He also works in technology policy, chairing the IEEE Internet Initiative (3I) engagements sub-committee. He is an Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne School of Engineering, and a risk manager in the financial services industry where he specialises in cyberfraud. His focus is the social impact of disruptive technologies, and barriers to socially beneficial technology. He is currently working on the application of blockchain technologies. He chairs the IEEE Blockchain Special Interest Group.
