Dr Espina is interested in catalysing and translating the scientific evidence into public goods with measurable social impact. She has led the development of the European Code against Cancer 4th edition, conceptualized the scale-up to the World Code against Cancer and is leading the Latin America and the Caribbean Code against Cancer. Complementary to that, she is interested in evaluating the impact of the Regional Codes (i.e. cancer prevention recommendations) in: (i) influencing behavioural-related outcomes at individual level, (ii)
increasing cancer prevention-related competencies at the level of health providers or educators, and (iii) policy implementation and enforcement, to investigate implementation and dissemination outcomes. In addition, I have created and lead the IARC crosscutting Working Group on Cancer prevention Knowledge Translation and Transfer (KTT WG) with the vision of building bridges between the scientific knowledge produced by IARC and collaborators, and cancer prevention decision-making.
