The Institute of Informatics is a part of the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science, one of the twelve faculties of the Silesian University of Technology (SUT).
The Institute consists of five divisions: Theory of Informatics (DTI), Informatics Devices (DID), Software (DS), Microinformatics and Automata Theory (DMAT), and Computer Systems Theory and Design (DCSTD).
The Institute of Informatics belongs with leading Polish and European scientific centres concerned with IT systems.
In particular the Instutute conducts research dedicated to:Artificial intelligenceBiomolecular informaticsComputer networksData processing and storageDistributed computer systemsEmbedded systemsInformatics in aviationNatural langauge processingReal-Time systemsSignal processing and computer visionThe total number of students of informatics in the faculty exceeds 1400.
Thanks to the modern curriculum and modern equipment of laboratories the studies give scientific, theoretical and experimental foundations needed for the software design, construction and exploitation of microcomputers, computers, large computer systems and computer networks.
Graduates of the Institute may be employed in research centers, in institutions and companies that create and use computer hardware or software, in design companies that develop projects on the computerisation of certain aspects of life, in specialised computer science domains of the majority of modern institutions.
