DETOCS Final Conference in Middelburg, Netherlands

The Interreg Europe DETOCS – DEcarbonising the TOurism Industry Post Covid-19 Support project is holding its final public event on 14–15 October 2026 in the historic city of Middelburg, the Netherlands. Policymakers, executives, and regional stakeholders from across Europe are invited to come together to explore how tourism can recover from the pandemic while moving towards a greener, low-carbon future.

What to Expect

Over two days, the conference will:

  • Showcase the key results and policy achievements of the DETOCS
  • Highlight concrete good practices from partner regions, including Slovenia, Greece, Malta, Finland, Italy, Bulgaria, Hungary, and the
  • Offer space for exchange and discussion on accelerating the decarbonisation of tourism

On the afternoon of 14 October, participants will have the opportunity to take part in a study visit, seeing sustainable tourism practices in action and gaining practical insights into low-carbon solutions.

Why It Matters

DETOCS contributes to EU Cohesion Policy, specifically Policy Objective 2 (PO2): A greener, low-carbon Europe, and supports the EU’s long-term pathway to climate neutrality by 2050. The project helps regions improve policies, adopt best practices, and implement energy-efficient and renewable solutions in tourism infrastructure — all contributing to a more sustainable European tourism sector.
