Advancing research on adult learning

In a rapidly changing world of work, shaped by digitalisation, artificial intelligence, and the green transition; adult learning plays a key role in supporting employability, resilience, and inclusion. This seminar explores how data can better inform labour market and policy decisions. It brings together the community of researchers, statisticians, and analysts to discuss innovative methods for measuring and analysing adult learning.

This Cedefop research seminar brings together researchers, statisticians and analysts to explore innovative methods for measuring and analysing adult learning. It will take place at Cedefop’s premises in Thessaloniki on 12 and 13 October 2026, focusing on how data can improve understanding of adult learning systems and outcomes.

Participants will engage in presentations and discussions on advanced statistical methods, data collection and analytical approaches. Sessions will explore how to measure participation, identify patterns and analyse drivers, barriers and outcomes of adult learning in a changing labour market. The programme will also address survey design and the use of data for policy advice, highlighting comparative and longitudinal approaches. Such evidence-based analysis is indispensable for informing policy development, guiding resource allocation, and strengthening the responsiveness of adult education systems to evolving workforce needs.

Cedefop invites researchers and analysts to submit abstracts for presentations, focusing on topics such as measurement approaches, data use for policy and survey design.

The seminar aims to strengthen knowledge on how robust methods and high-quality data can improve understanding of adult learning systems. It will support exchange between data producers, researchers and policymakers, and contribute to building a stronger evidence base for policy development, resource allocation and system responsiveness.
