BackgroundAs a fundamental step to build trust in carbon removals and carbon farming while creating a competitive, sustainable and circular economy, the Commission adopted Regulation (EU/2024/3012) on Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming (CRCF). The CRCF Regulation established the first EU-wide voluntary certification framework for: permanent carbon removals, carbon farming, and carbon storage in products.
In February, the Commission has adopted the first set of CRCF certification methodologies on permanent carbon removals, and will soon start recognising the schemes intending to implement those methodologies.
Looking ahead, the Commission aims to support the development of a robust market for high-quality carbon removals in the EU. In this context, the CRCF Days will contribute to this process by bringing together project developers, suppliers, buyers, industry representatives, Member State authorities, and other relevant stakeholders to exchange views on ongoing developments and to discuss the practical implementation of the framework, including the role of the EU Buyers’ Club in driving demand and investment.
