EU Energy Policy

This programme provides participants with essential tools to understand the core components of EU energy policy and the governance frameworks used to address both internal and global challenges across multiple sectors.

In the context of the EU Green Deal, the course explores the EU's efforts to meet clean energy targets while safeguarding a robust industrial base.

The implementation of the Fit for 55 package and the setting of the 2040 decarbonisation target will be examined, with particular focus on the implications for key sectors such as mobility, industry, hydrogen, and data.

The course also delves into the priorities following the 2024 European Parliament elections, offering participants a chance to put policy into practice through a simulation game.

The course combines different learning approaches to ensure a comprehensive understanding of EU energy policy:

  • Interactive training sessions: These sessions will provide both theoretical and practical insights into EU energy policy, the Fit for 55 package, and the broader context of the European Green Deal, focusing on developments in the post-2024 European Parliament elections;
  • Simulation game: This hands-on session will simulate the decision-making process in EU energy policy, allowing participants to engage directly with current issues and practice negotiating energy transition policies;
  • Study visits: Participants will visit key EU institutions in Brussels, where they will meet with EU officials and stakeholders to gain a deeper understanding of how EU energy policies are formulated and implemented;
  • Guided discussions: Senior trainers will lead discussions on the latest internal and external developments in energy policy, engaging participants in analysing the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of EU energy;
  • Active debates: Trainers and participants will engage in debates, encouraging diverse perspectives and facilitating critical thinking on the complexities of EU energy policy.

The course offers a comprehensive view of the EU's energy policy landscape, covering a wide range of topics and their practical implications.

By providing a broad yet detailed understanding, it equips participants with the knowledge needed to navigate and influence the evolving energy policy environment in the European Union.
