Fishing is one of the world’s most hazardous occupations.
Ensuring safe and decent working conditions for all remains one of the sector’s biggest challenges.
Situations where there are human and labour rights abuses are still observed across fisheries value chains in both developed and developing countries.
To address these challenges, CIHEAM Zaragoza, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Spanish Social Marine Institute (ISM), through the Isla Cristina National Training Centre (CNF), organise the advanced course “Promoting decent working conditions in fisheries”, with the collaboration of the Spanish National Institute for Safety and Health at Work (INSST).
Combining expert-led lectures, practical work, on-board fishing vessels exercises, and case studies, this course will equip participants with the knowledge and tools needed to develop strategies that promote safe, decent working conditions and advance equitable social practices across fisheries value chains.
The course is aimed at managers in fisheries administrations or institutions with responsibility for social issues in the sector, as well as for fishery and labour inspectors, technical advisors, and other specialists engaged in labour standards, working conditions, and social protection in fisheries.
