The ground-breaking Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) is the first major piece of legislation to establish a harmonised set of rules for artificial intelligence, anywhere in the world.
The AI Act establishes a system for the categorisation of AI systems according to the risks that they pose, with a series of obligations attached to each category.
The AI Act underwent a series of modifications during the legislative procedure, corresponding with the emergence of widely accessible generative AI systems, which led to an increase in both its length and complexity.
Given this depth, scope, and the rapidly evolving technological context, effective implementation of the AI Act poses a significant challenge for the Commission and national regulatory authorities.
CERRE’s AI Act Implementation Forum aims to address these challenges by bringing together stakeholders and academia in order to produce high-quality, policy-relevant research.
