The role of education within COP events has evolved significantly over recent years, reflecting a growing recognition of its crucial role in addressing the climate crisis.

 Building upon the achievements at previous COPs, this year’s COP29, hosted by Azerbaijan focuses on accelerating investment in greening education as a part of the investment in Human Development for a Climate Resilient Future.

The sixth discussion closes the third season of the UNESCO-UNFCCC webinar series on climate change education for social transformation with a particular focus on the third pillar of the Greening Education Partnership, teacher training and education systems’ capacities.

By looking back at COP29, in Baku, Azerbaijan, where greening education was addressed as a part of the Baku Initiative on Human Development for Climate Resilience as well as Action for Climate Empowerment of the UNFCCC, the session will discuss the key takeaways and ways forward on how to promote climate change education for social transformation.

Through an interactive panel discussion, the webinar will address two guiding questions:

• What are the main achievements and takeaways on greening teacher training and education systems’ capacities from COP29?
• What are the next steps to translate these achievements and takeaways into action?
