The EIB's task is to promote stable development of the European internal market in all economic sectors by financing projects.

This particularly applies to the six areas of climate and environment, development, innovation, small businesses, infrastructure and cohesion.

The NATO is of great importance within the European Union, there is a political will to create more commonality between the member states in the area of defence, security and to promote the development of a functioning European Defence Union.
