Convergence of disruptive technologies – from Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Big Data, Internet of Things (IoT), and Decentralized Ledger Technology (DLT) – is driving society towards a fast and unprecedented digital transition, breaking the barriers between the physical and digital world.
In this scenario, the ubiquity of IoT device and the emerging of new Distributed Ledger Technologies represent enabling factors for the emerging of new value-added services.
The fusion of blockchain and IoT technologies represents an unprecedented paradigm shift that is expected to disrupt both current and future systems in various fields.
In particular, DLT could potentially tackle major challenges related to the use of IoT and vice-versa, unlocking opportunity for the development of new services and application.
The objective of this report is to explore opportunities lying at the intersection of DLT and IoT by connecting the different layers of the two technological stack to discover promising areas of convergence and related use cases.
In sections 2 and 3, DLT and IoT technological stack will be identified and described.
In section 4 and 5, areas of possible intersections will be identified by means of a Convergence Matrix and then described to provide an overall vision of open research and application opportunities.
In section 6, the more promising convergence’ topics will be selected and associated to existing use cases and initiatives from academy or already present on the market.
